If this virus had hit us in July or August for the first time, Trump would have been dead in the water by election day.
You are making a big assumption. Nobody knows if this virus will slow down or disappear in the summer. And when fall comes we will have flu + Corona virus at the same time. Combine that with some states "opening for business" and the lack of masks and we will see a much larger death toll starting in September. By the time November voting rolls around, all of Trump's happy talk will not save him in the face of more deaths than we have seen so far. .
Only about 12% of Americans thought the lock down was extreme. By election time voters will have a clear picture of a President who was a dismal failure at precisely the time the American people needed a world class leader. He has nothing to gain whether we are in a second wave of covid19 or whether we are through the worst of it.

I too feel the timing was not right. I am more worried both parties are in it if its someting related to 5G..

Sadly, there are likely many a leftist who wishes that covid did hit us later in the year for exactly why you stated.
