Yeah, I don’t get it. I just spoke with someone who said that we need to stay at home as long as it takes, even if it takes two years, while showing very little awareness of how financially devastating this would be to most Americans. She herself has a FT work-from-home job and a very generous pension from the government, as does her retired husband, so she is protected from calamity. Even if she loses her job, which is unlikely, she and her husband have those ironclad federal pensions.

It is inevitable that as time goes on these orders will be harder and harder to enforce, especially with the weather getting warmer. There is noticeably more traffic out and about in the past week or so and, in general, the feeling in the air is just different. Less doom and gloom, people saying "hello" again instead of nose-diving across the street to avoid you.

I think people are also starting to do their own risk assessments based on what we know now. If you start poking holes in the requirements of many stay at home orders, you will end up with swiss cheese real quick. Example: visiting with a friend or family member, outside, 6 feet away from each other = dangerous and reckless. Standing in line with 30 other people to get into Costco = "safe".

So why are grocery stores still open then?

I have noticed that too. I was grabbing coffee this morning and while we stood apart in line, strangers were engaging in conversation and weren’t trying to avoid you. Only one person in line was wearing a mask and she was striking a conversation. For the first time in a month, there was actually traffic on the freeway.

Oh yes, the "new normal." In which there are no schools, no churches, no concerts, no sit-down restaurants, no small retail shops, no spectator sports, no parties, no weddings, no pleasure travel, no haircuts, but there ARE food shortages, healthcare shortages and massive unemployment, while everyone wears a mask at all times and is tracked by phone or microchip to make sure they are toeing the line.

If this had been written as a dystopian novel, people would say it was too implausible even for fiction.

Yes, all those things are worse than the virus and death.

Don’t care, I went to a restaurant today for dine in...it was great, everyone in good spirits. People can feel free to stay at the house, I’ll be out and about just like I was during the “lockdown”.

Hyperbole of the highest order. Summer is almost here, quit being miserable! And those things are far worse than a virus that kills 0.1% of people

Businesses may open up but that doesn't mean people will go. Trump may have signed an executive order keeping meat plants open but if you don't have employees, how do you open. You look to your neighbors to help. Our community has food banks, we are supporting our restaurants. This is what Americans do in a crisis. This is a global pandemic though and needs leadership from our president. This is his economy.
