It's understandable given the embarrassment that is NY which accounts for about half of the total deaths in the country when you include that state and those caught in their wake.

On top of that, we're accurately accounting for those deaths which many countries aren't. So really we're talking about 12th out of what, 15 countries that count?

No, we don’t have to do whatever the world says. Who even said that? Talk about a false binary.

Look: A mature individual knows who they are. They know their values and what they will put up with and what they won’t. At the same time this mature individual cares about what others think. They know they do not live in complete isolation and that who they are is inevitably worked out in relation to others. They don’t care about what every single person thinks. But they certainly listen to some.

Same goes for countries: The well-governed, “mature” country has its own identity. It has its traditions, values, history, political structure. At the same time it exists as one among other nations and does indeed care what other nations “think”. As for the mature person, not all foreign opinions count equally. Why should we care about what Zimbabwe thinks of us? They are neither ally, nor enemy, nor shining model of good governance. But we should indeed care about what other democracies and particularly our allies think of us.

Wow! We’re really winning now. I spoke with one of my French friends last week. Let’s just say that having our dear leader ask if medical researchers are looking into injecting our bodies with disinfectant did NOT enhance our national standing. She literally laughed herself to tears during our Skype chat. So proud to be an American. NOT!
I guess it's understandable that some Euros, twisted by jealousy, are quick to display contempt for anything American. But it's pretty pathetic when Americans like yourself play along.

If I made up numbers, 2+2 = 5. I swear it is 5 because I say so. With what we know, America's response is crap. Whether that be 12th worse out of 200 or 12th worse out of 15. Either way, it is a poor response. Period.

What's the saying about lipstick on a pig?

So when are you moving to France?

Also, next time France needs the USA to help them when they are invaded, have them look elsewhere.

Yeah, I'm thin skinned when it comes to America. We might not be perfect, but we're the best out there. No other country in the world has so many immigrants wanting to come here.

The US: object of international pity (horror and contempt)
The problem is that all they see about US is Trump's mug on TV and it makes international news almost every day, because he says things which makes normal people shake their heads. For Trump, its all about Trump, which is why he gets defensive and lashes out at the media, FBI, WHO, China, governors, States, Democrats etc etc. And then he makes stuff up, just to make it sound like everything is under control. Its all a deflection from his inability to handle the situation.

Um ... the Europeans are most definitely not “twisted by jealousy” LOL

Take my word for it. I am sure I know a lot more Europeans than you. And yet am still a somewhat proud American (in spite of the current clown show). See that? I like Europe and I like America! Did your head just explode?

I'm afraid this may be true. All empires eventually fall; what precipitates the decline of empire varies. In our case we may be undone by a simple virus. The US and China were confronted with the same disease. The US has had 87,000 deaths and our economy is on the rocks. China had only 4700 deaths and they are open for business again.

This may be the year the American empire falters and China takes our place as the dominant world power.

Being 12th in "most deaths" out of 15 means being 3rd best, not 12th worst.

If you look at it objectively, the US had a better than average response, it's just election year propaganda that has people parroting the idea that there was a poor response.

Funny how the talk of millions dead quickly turned into talk about how 80K deaths was a "poor response".
