Given blacks, especially younger black men, are the most violent group in the US, I suppose I can feel they are a "threat' every time I see one?
I mean that is your logic.
If young black men were not violent they would have gone extinct a long time ago. They are the most favorite prey. Most of the ones killed by police and the Klan are the non violent and unarmed ones.

No they aren't. A group that commits over half the murders and violent crime but makes up about 6%of the population (13% total...but most of the murders are by males that equal about 1/2 of the total population) is far from being prey. And most of the killings by cop are armed.

Yeah, the white guy is pretty stupid for mouthing racist crap against a bunch of angry black guys.
But that does not make it legal for the black guy to commit assault/battery.
Actually, in a country that respects the rule of law, it's highly relevant.
The black guy ran up on him and shoved him violently. He was going to do that anyway as he was clearly looking to fight. The white guy putting his arm out in a non-violent gesture was irrelevant. The relevant part is that he put himself in a bad situation in the first place and should be more careful with that next time.
