You can understand why someone would get physically violent over being called a name? What is he, three years old?

Depending on the context and who is saying it words have different meanings.

The white guy placed his hand on the black guy. You can't do that.

We all learned it in kindergarten.

Even public schools taught this.

I wouldn't punch them! I guess there are people who do.

No one I know would call me that, and if a stranger called me that I wouldn't engage. It's not going to get better from there. When there's a crazy person trying to engage you, don't.

I see types of speech that aren't protected under the 1st amendment, but I don't see where the courts say so then you can go ahead and seriously assault someone who says them.

"Not protected speech" isn't the same things as "go ahead and punch someone in the head".
Suppose I thought the individual was Klan member and I feared for my life.

I don't know why people are focused on the words. That is a game for 3-year-olds.

The white guy clearly put his hands on the black guy first. That's all that matters. The white guy was wrong.

Do you have men around you that get angry at women and use that word? What would you do in that case?

Just more cowardly animals running wild. If someone posts a thread every time this happens, there will be pages to wade through.

Nobody who carries responsibly would act like that in the first place. If you go around baiting people into attacking you so you can feel justified shooting them then you should not being carrying in the first place. it's a major responsibility requiring a level of maturity.
