there's a few here that can see past the anti-china propaganda, but CD is far too right wing (and brainwashed) where any challenge of it will result in a lopsided pile on from that aisle, much like being downvoted by redditors.
they're the same people that cry foul when there's an anti-trump article posted, as some conspiracy to take him down (which I somewhat agree with).
yet ironically, they can't see the anti-china smear campaign launched by the trump administration.
it's pretty clear that all the rhetoric is all a ploy to get himself (re)elected. during the 2016 campaign, it was china stole our jobs. post election, suddenly he and Xi were friends.
huawei and dji were banned because they were deemed a security threat. yet, some time last year, huawei was back on the table during trade talks without any proof of remediation of these alleged security threats.
when corona hit, he praised Xi for handling it very well. when we got hit hard weeks later, it became the china kungflu.
dozens of other countries have worse human rights records than china, yet the focus of the attacks is only on xinjiang uighurs (where hard evidence is completely lacking).
more recently, trump sees that he is down in the polls and is using these headlines as a distraction for the public. it becomes very easy for him to say he's going to be harder on china than biden, so if you're not voting for him, that means you're voting for china. setup the 'china bad' narrative early on, then guilt them into voting come november.
the US govt sees a rising China as an immediate threat, exactly like they saw Russia during the cold war. The similarities are uncanny - you have a "communist" nuclear nation that is surging forward economically, technologically, militarily, increasing its sphere of influence through OBOR.
additionally, the US can't allow its citizens to see a communist nation succeeding, lifting hundreds of millions out of poverty, while we are stagnating.
Actually scratch that, I DO...
How about you move to China and criticize Xi Jinping in the same way that you are permitted to criticize Trump here in America and get back to us about how much more decent and benevolent China is?
The Chinese do talk about politics as well and some are critical of the president. That's not a big deal.
But most Chinese are actually content with their country's government. I know it is hard to believe in the West where in most countries half the population would like to topple their elected leaders.
Regarding Christians, China does not like Catholics because the Vatican keeps interfering in China's internal affairs. Nor are evangelical sects welcome, which tend to hold radical views.
If I were China, I would make Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism state religions. And keep a watchful eye on the rest. The Chinese should focus on their own religions, which are much wiser and more sophisticated than the ones from the Middle East.
Christianity is often used as a vehicle for Westernization.
Snatched off the streets, hasn't been seen in over 4 months.
There is a not so fine line between criticizing and insulting.
Calling your president or king a clown is not OK in many countries. Do that in Saudi-Arabia for instance and see what happens.
He probably believes noone was hurt in Tiananmen Square and that the Flower/tank guy has a cushy government job and nice apartment.
That was a long time ago, long before the current president. Nor are things as simple as they seem. The origin of those protests was not political in nature, but economic reforms.
That's why many of the reforms and policies since then have aimed at reducing poverty.
Being pro-China is not going to win you much support for more reasons than can be listed here.
It is a communist country with an oppressive government. You are not going to convince anyone that's a good thing.
What I would like to know is, where was all the bashing against China when Big Business and Wall Street was making money hand over fist? If you criticized trade with China 5 years ago you were called a Free Market Capitalism hating Commie.
I know, people in the West are lazy and don't want to challenge their views and change their minds, it's so comfortable just going with the flow, even if it hurts innocent people...
