SICK PEOPLE are filling beds, because guess what? That's what hospital beds are for. We don't use signifiers about who is sick. We don't say:
Junkies are filling beds. Fat people are filling beds. Smokers are filling beds.
No one cares about the citizenship of people "filling beds," but they care about the vaccine status?
Obviously, we have enough capacity for junkies, fat people and smokers so while it would be good if we had less of these issues it's not an urgent problem.
We care about vaccine status because the unvaccinated are overrunning the hospitals and it is completely unnecessary.
The willingly unvaccinated are imposing a burden on the vaccinated through excessive and unnecessary hospital utilization and other restrictions.
As the hospitals fill up with the unvaccinated, the vaccinated can’t get treatment.
In addition, the vaccinated have to suffer mask mandates and lockdowns to slow the spread to protect the unvaccinated.
If being unvaccinated didn’t impact me, I wouldn’t care if someone was unvaccinated. But it does.
Take it up with the people with the power to implement (or not to implement) these ineffective, ridiculous, and dehumanizing interventions. Not with your fellow citizens.
If we keep pretending that these interventions work, and are natural, and are legal, we're going to be using them a long time, because the world still has billions of unvaccinated people, and that's not going to change overnight.

The hysteria in this post is exactly why I refuse to be tied down to my location and and be able to quickly bolt. This detachment from reality won't end well.

60+% of the hospitalized are fat.
Less than 15% of the currently hospitalized are covid patients - and recent data points to only 1/2 of those hospitalized covid patients are truly hospitalized for covid related issues.

Hmmm. If only we had 18 months to prepare the hospital system for a pandemic ...
If all they cared about was beds, then kick out the non-citizens. Kick out the junkies. Kick out anyone who is in the hospital because of bad life choices. Send the unvaccinated Afghan refugees back, and their child brides too. That would free up beds. But people only talk in this cruel way when it comes to
'the unvaccinated.'
The issue is ICU beds AND the trained medical staff needed for an ICU unit to function.
There aren't an unlimited number of ICU beds.
If an ICU unit fills up with Covid patients, and let's say 1/3 of them are on ventilators, which often means long ICU stays of >2 or 3 weeks, then someone who comes in with a heart attack and needs to be in the ICU, isn't going to get one of the ICU beds until there's an opening.

This is the philosophical foundation of eugenics. Arguing that any portion of the population poses a burden on society. It is a dog whistle to completely 'other' and dehumanize a segment of the population. Of course under the guise of altruism and public health. Always is.
You have to endure mask mandates and lockdowns because of your leaders, not the 'unvaccinated.' Vote differently next time.
If highly vaccinated New York is mandating masks on toddlers, it's not because of the 'unvaccinated.'

And so far I have not read of that happening in the past 1.5 years of this pandemic.
You can play "what if" all day long.
Take a look at your own state's hospital stats.
In SC 23% of ICU beds are covid; the rest are something else
In SC 16% are on vents; the rest are something else
Covid is not filling up SC hospitals
