Vaccine Thread - Part II

Our nation's medical marvels, the COVID-19 vaccines, continue to save lives, impede the spread of the virus and prevent infection, unnecessary pain and suffering and other hardships that pandemic disease causes to communities and individuals alike.

The results of the largest U.S. study to date of the real-world effectiveness of all three vaccines was released in 3 reports last Friday. And the news was great---especially in the face of the latest variant (Delta) that is wreaking havoc on the hosts it finds. The protection afforded by the vaccines remains high.

Quote:
The vaccines remain 82% effective against contracting the highly transmissible DELTA variant."Still achieving 82 percent is a very good number,” said Mehul Suthar, a virologist at Emory University who studies the coronavirus. “These vaccines still hold up against a highly transmissible variant.”

People who were not fully vaccinated this spring and summer were more than 10 times more likely to be hospitalized, and 11 times more likely to die of covid-19, than those who were fully vaccinated, according to one of three major studies published Friday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that highlight the continued efficacy of all three vaccines amid the spread of the highly contagious delta variant.

While the three vaccines were collectively 86 percent effective in preventing hospitalization, protection was significantly higher among Moderna vaccine recipients (95 percent) than among those who got Pfizer-BioNTech (80 percent) or Johnson & Johnson (60 percent). That finding echoes a smaller study by the Mayo Clinic Health System in August, not yet peer-reviewed..

Noting the effectiveness of all vaccines against severe illness and death, public health officials have continued to urge people to get whatever vaccine is available.

“The bottom line is this: We have the scientific tools we need to turn the corner on this pandemic,” CDC Director Rochelle Walensky said at a White House coronavirus briefing Friday. “Vaccination works and will protect us from the severe complications of covid-19.”

Obtaining health information from credible and highly regarded sources and real world science studies may save your life and that of someone you know and love. Looking at the contrast between areas of the country where the high percentage of the populace heeded the advice of the experts, and the areas where a much small percentage of the people paid attention, reveals a stark and undeniable reality. People are alive and healthier where they listened to the experts, and the communities in which they reside are safer & more medically secure.

The supposed threat posed by the unvaccinated to the vaccinated is extremely overstated and exaggerated. If you are vaccinated, your chances of dying from the virus are close to none. Your unvaccinated co-worker is not a threat to you. You have nothing to fear from us if you are vaccinated. You have a lot of other things to worry about regarding threats to your health, such as heart disease and cancer.

Get stuck or stay home. Pick one.
Your position is not supported by the facts and is based more in bias, bigotry, and perhaps hatred than in science. We will not stay home or get stuck, and you're just going to have to accept that. You have to respect the personal decisions of the unvaccinated--many of whom have already attained natural immunity.

That's fine. We know that already. You don't have to vaccine-splain.

The problem is that there are a lot of people on here that have grossly misinterpreted the FDA and CDC and somehow believe that the vaccines do not prevent transmission at all, which is demonstrably false. What is true is that they do not prevent 100% of transmission.

The people who, willfully or otherwise, pretend to not know that there are numbers in between 0% and 100% - are the reason for the 'splaining.

Hover over the map of Manhattan and go to Chelsea/No Mad/West Chelsea, Hells Kitchen (10036). It says "100% fully vaccinated." You'll also see that many other neighborhoods have very high rates.

I wonder how they got this data - did they count vaccinations by the location at which a person got the shot(s), or by where they lived? Then-governor Cuomo said earlier in the vaccine rollout that many residents of New York were traveling significant distances for shots.

Hasty generalization. You have to look at the mortality rates by age and you will see the elderly have a much lower survival rate.

and chucky is wrong... no vaccinations will equal (with all the variants) death.. a big pandemic.. as it goes around, and around, and around until nearly all are dead...
No. As it goes "around and around" it will leave immunity in those who survived it (that number is quite high) and eventually you will have an endemic. It will never go away, we've seen many studies and articles explaining why on that subject. Best way out is immunity and that is by either the shots or infection. The variants will fizzle due to immunity. Unfortunately, there will be deaths and misery and suffering, especially if we just depend on recovered immunity.

Drano kills the virus also. Maybe a nice cocktail of horse paste and lye will do the trick. No need to bother with an FDA and medical science approved treatment that is proven. Lets just get sick on purpose and DEMAND a treatment.

Why are we no longer able to think critically, opting instead for mysticism and horse dewormer. When did we become a population of conspiracy worshipping fools?
You are being ridiculous and it does zero for any credibility to your point. This has already been discussed ad nauseum here and everywhere. No wonder you are in sales.

Ok, clean nasal passages. The conversation also included mouthwash. Neither pose a problem.

I haven't seen too many (not even sure of ANY) who think that. Most people know the numbers that are being posted. The FDA and the CDC have misrepresented things since the beginning. Not everyone has the same capacity to see through their BS. That is a shame. They own a part of the distrust here in the US.
