Yep. I considered including the Handmaid's Tale, The Walking Dead, A.I., Bladerunner, Farenheit 451, Escape from New York, and a few others. But the list is already pretty long and it provides a good selection of semi-plausible different directions that could become increasingly more relevant and identifiable to us in real life going forward.

As the poll currently shows, George Orwell's 1984 seems to be resonating the strongest with people. And for good reason. But there are a number of other scenarios which could offer us a glimpse of our future as well. That being said, I do not believe that 'The Handmaid's Tale' is probably one of them.

Perhaps one of the reasons why "George Orwell's 1984 seems to be resonating the strongest with people" is because American people have been indoctrinated with the 'Lost Cause' mythologies for more than a century after the American Civil War?

Quote:
War Is Peace;
Freedom Is Slavery;
Ignorance Is Strength
In other words:

War Is Peace: (stating the obvious) the American Civil War was not peaceful, nor did it result in peace.

Freedom Is Slavery: (also stating the obvious) the Confederacy fought to protect, preserve, & expand race-based enslavement.

ignorance Is Strength: (ditto) indoctrination of the people on the 'Lost Cause mythologies was a focused ignorance resulting in a Neo-Confederate strength.

Apparently, it's 'Lost Cause' redux with some folks:

MAGA, the New Confederate Lost Cause

"White supremacist myths turn defeated leaders into heroic victors. Will Donald Trump now get the same transfiguration as Robert E. Lee?

If history is our guide -- as it often is on this show -- then there’s reason to worry about the answer to that question. Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Dr. David Blight (Sterling Professor of History at Yale University and the author of "Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom") joins Kai to tell the story of the Confederacy’s Lost Cause mythology -- how it was created, why it still matters today, and how similar it may feel to the new Lost Cause of Donald Trump."

Or maybe it is because people who have read 1984, which was published over 70 years ago, see what is happening in our nation and our world at the current time and are eerily impressed with how remarkably prophetic in many ways it is turning out to be.

Boston Dynamics Robots Learn How To Dance In Creepy New Video

These are bipedal robots - like us. It is not just the little dog robots. These things look like early cylon models.

As a species that is clearly and profoundly lacking in wisdom and self control, it is enough to make a thinking person wonder: Which sort of dystopian future is all of the stuff that is happening in our world most likely to advance us towards the most in the year 2021?

Just to be clear, the lockdowns, the masks, the mass hysteria around this virus - we did not have to respond this way. This is a human caused disaster. The Wuhan virus is not the true disaster here. Our reaction to it, which is no accident, is the disaster. Unless you are one of the extremely wealthy globalist elites, that is, in which case you can afford to fly around on planes from one resort or vacation home or another, and none of these apparently permanent control measures really do not effect you in any meaningful way.

We do not have to live like this. This is not a volcano or a tsunami or an earthquake or an asteroid strike which we have no control over. We have chosen to do this to ourselves.

So where does this lead in 2021 and beyond? Something dystopian, almost certainly, if the way that we have behaved in the year 2020 is any indication.
1984 since we are already headed that way under Obama, throw in some Hunger Games because thanks to the left shutting down states and cities people are starving and thrown in Left Behind because although I am no christian they are being persecuted left and right.
