Lockdowns are effective if you are really doing a lockdown. We never had that anywhere in the US. It was always a haphazard mish mash of conflicting rules and enforcements across different states and municipalities. There are other nations that did implement a true lockdown, and the virus was suppressed. That is easy to see. Look up Perth Aus. or New Zealand or Vietnam. Lockdowns do work.
Not even going to get into masks. You can find studies from any major university, hospital, or research institution that proves masks are effective in slowing transmission. To deny this is denying basic science that you learn when you are a child.
Comparing island nation which each have about one major airport to the US. Smart!
Why do you think people are not catching it from flying or public transportation, because airplanes and subway cars have air exchange systems, the air is exchanged every 3-4 minutes
But I'm not stopping you from eating inside a restaurant, you go enjoy
I don't allow anyone to tell me what I can and can't do. Problem is people like yourself give themselves liberties that they don't have, and put pressure on local/state governments to do something about these restaurants. Thankfully here in Illinois, locally owned restaurants could care less, and have been staying open.
What is is that you do? Maybe I'll whip up a frenzy based on spurious information to make sure your business gets closed? And this goes out to all the do-gooders who collect full salary while "working" from home through Zoom.
Btw, in my county, our local health department traced 1.4% of all outbreaks to restaurants. 57% were traced back to nursing homes, along with almost 50% of all confirmed Covid deaths. Yet, those death traps continue to stay open.

So then why live in a society where government makes the laws for people to follow, if you're so independent? Go chop wood and build a cabin somewhere in the Appalachians. It kills me when all you "off-grid" people talk this independent nonsense while living on the grid.

I'm not off grid, you're projecting, and employing a straw-man argument rather than simply arguing the facts. I just told you based on data--that all you do-gooders can't get enough off, restaurants contribution to spread is negligible. Government, aided by millions of people such as yourself, is fiddling while Rome is burning. But even, if the restaurants were a big spreading place, government still has no right to interfere. Just like government has no right to tell you to go spend your money at restaurants.
Again, what is it that you do, and I'll make sure to use the same "data", "logic", and "reasoning" to lobby for you to stop working?
Everyone loves and approves of government telling someone else what they can and can't do, you know, for the good of the society, unless of course the same treatment is applied to them.

I'm not projecting, everybody always complains about government invervention.
Same people complaining about government intervention are perfectly welcome to go off the grid then.
This is what happens when we treated politicians like deities; instead of the mere mortals they are
We expect perfection from them, and they're only human.
Typical American - "I don't care that this virus is brand new and nobody knows all there is to know about it yet, just fix it so I can go eat"
We sound like a bunch of obese slobs

This is a process, to learn how to deal with this new virus.
One of the problems with lockdowns, is people didn't do it. If you declare lockdowns and people are going on about their business as usual, they don't work.
Anecdotally, people I know who followed the protocols didn't get COVID, and people who did, had violated the protocols in a pretty glaring way. And anecdote is singular for data, so there's that.
So if people didn't follow lockdown why was it dragged out for almost a year? Why is it ok to lift restrictions now? Why weren't restrictions lifted after the first wave died down?
Yep, we're past the election and the certification of the electoral college.
Correct. Trump lost, fair and square.
Lockdowns keep people from spreading COVID19.
Both statements above are true.
