Like if someone from there would want to come here.
My grand father did. became a citizen just in time to be drafted for WW1 and sent to France to become a participant in a gas attack................he hated the United states army until the day he died.........

I hear them say as they've repeatedly excused criminal behavior from the Whitehouse...

Very simple and straightforward process. This is how every single one of my ancestors became US citizens.

The process started to change in 1924 with the passage of the Immigration Act, which was racially driven - primarily focusing on cutting off immigration by Italians, Poles, Jews, and Asians, as well as other nationalities that were viewed as undesirable.

I would be totally fine with just allowing things to go back to the way they were prior to the clamping down of immigration.
I note you didn't provide a link to your claims. You can't be serious that we should have the same immigration laws as we did over 100 years ago. Things have changed. We are no longer in need of nation builders with just manual labor skills. Our population has blown to over 330 million now with a shortage of jobs and resources to accommodate millions more but we still allow in over 1 million legal immigrants a year! We have millions here illegally to. Our schools, jails, hospitals, roads and neighborhoods are overcrowded to. Geez, think man!

We already do that! We allow in 1 million legal immigrants a year in keeping with our ability to provide then with jobs and resources without it negatively impacting our own citizens and keeping population growth in check. Any rational person knows that that is sane immigration policy already! We cannot be the flophouse and employment agency to the whole world's needy just because they are deemed honest.

this is odd, since just 4 weeks ago he was walking back from this "Day 1 action" claim...

During his campaign, President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. promised to swiftly reverse those and other Trump administration border policies. But on Tuesday, Mr. Biden and his top advisers seemed to walk back those pledges.

At an event in Wilmington, Del., the president-elect told reporters that he would enact a more “humane policy” at the borders but that his administration would need “probably the next six months” to rebuild a system to process migrants and secure funding for immigration judges.

Many people have been locked in the system -- showing up every six months to a year, checking in and their case not moving forward.

I hope he takes those people out of limbo. If they have a job, a family and are contributing members of society they should be allowed to apply for a green card.

It's silly to leave people in limbo for years.

I hope that resources are spent at ports of entry to properly process applications for immigration in a timely manner. This may reduce many families who try to sneak in.

Visa tracking to deal with people overstaying work visas...or even tourist visas.

Employer e-verify systems need to be improved to encourage companies to hire folks legally.

But, in 1965, the National Origins Formula was abolished. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigr...ty_Act_of_1965

The title is misleading. They wouldn't have legal status on the first day. About 90 percent of unauthorized immigrants are living here with family. There is a path to citizenship, but there's a huge waiting list that can take more than 10 years because of the quotas.

Trump would've taken those quotas and used them to bring in cheap workers under the skilled visa program. The net effect would've been more visa overstays who would be here illegally.

It doesn't matter which party is in office. Tough talk often hides other things they do that are at odds with policy, such as catch-and-release of detainees and voluntary use of e-verify.

The right thing is to unite families that are already here with a legal immigrant of the immediate family. It's good for the economy since the focus will be on expanding households, not just labor.

Why would we want to expand households which would increase our population numbers permanently? It would also keep them here competing for jobs and resources against Americans. They have already taken many of them and we need to free those jobs up for Americans again. Tons of low skilled labor is not good for our economy either.

No, amnesty, legalization and certainly not a path to citizenship isn't a solution to our illegal immigration problem as the next batch will just come in waiting for the next amnesty. They need to return to their homelands and start the legal process there while waiting in line. That process doesn't begin on our soil nor should it.

If there are a lot of illegals living here with citizen or legal immigrant family then the family is also violating our immigration laws by aiding and abetting. Shame on the lot of them!

Unfortunately that's the direction that we are headed. Khrushchev had it right, we are on our way to becoming a communist nation.
