More than half of all Republicans in the House have signed a petition to remove House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney from her leadership position as a result of her vote to impeach President Trump last week.

More than half of House Republican Conference sign petition to oust Liz Cheney

House conservatives have garnered more than 115 signatures for their petition aimed at ousting House GOP Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) from her leadership position in the wake of voting in favor of impeaching President Trump for inciting a riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, a senior GOP aide told The Hill on Tuesday.

The petition - led by House Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) and Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-Mont.) - has more than enough signatures to force a special conference meeting where proponents of the effort are looking for a debate and a vote be held on a resolution calling on Cheney to resign from her role at the leadership table.
This should be enough to effectively end her political career. She also has big problems back home in Wyoming. She already has a significant primary opponent who has announced.

To be fair, I am not a Republican and the Republican party is not worth rooting for or supporting, even with this move. But I am happy to see it. She needs to be ousted.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out, Liz. Bye bye.

2/3 of the House must vote to remove a member.

Seems they are shorts 175 votes to do so.

Good. Even if they don’t remove her she’ll lose her primary.

They are not proposing to remove her from the House. They are proposing to remove her from her leadership position in the Republican House caucus.

Word is that she had imagined that she was positioning herself to be the possible next Speaker of the House in 2022, if the Republicans win back control then, as many people believe they are likely to do.

Either way, those aspirations are gone for good for old Liz. In fact, she will be hard pressed to hang on to her House seat at the next election. There is a very strong expectation by many at this point that she will not.

As well as cause, unless voting one's conscience is really that offensive to Republicans.

It only takes a straight majority of the caucus to remove someone from the leadership team, which is what they are proposing to do. It is not clear how this could be stopped at this point.

Interesting that this vote is by secret ballot.

Wonder how that will play out.
