In U.S. Term Limits, Inc. v. Thornton (1995), the United States Supreme Court ruled that states may not impose any qualifications for prospective members of the U.S. Congress stricter than those specified in the Constitution. The Constitution does not provide for recall of any members of Congress. Thus, any recall provisions which may be on the books are invalid.
Mitt Romney cannot be recalled. Barring resignation, death, or expulsion by the Senate, he will serve out his current term.
Well, blow me down, thanks for the info and the correction.
In which case I agree with the person I was responding to - a state's voters should have the right to recall their congressional folks.
I do wonder why this envelope hasn't been pushed harder.
IME, recalling state officeholders is pretty hard to accomplish, so maybe it hasn't seemed worth the effort to fight an uphill battle to even get the right to do a federal recall. Since it seems like the received wisdom that it would require a constitutional amendment.
I voted for Mitt for Senator and happily will do again. He is one of the very few Republicans I will ever vote for now. I am Indy and usually voted R overall, but I just can't any more.
I'm glad you asked. I voted for more R's that D's in presidential elections, I voted for Reagan, Bush 41 & Bush 43, and Romney. Those are my credentials!
I'm not a card carrying member of cult #45 so I guess that makes me a "lefty" in your world.
Thank you for noticing the recurring theme, but otherwise you are 1000% wrong.
Your remarks are inspirational, so much so that you've earned your way onto my personal Ignore List. I don't encourage others on the forum to follow my lead, as that would be considered a personal attack and could result in my being struck down by those we do not speak of. In fact, I encourage you to continue posting comments in the manner that you are used to. I would only point out that the lack of depth in your adolescent remarks does not rise to the level of being worthy of my personal preference.
