Why does this bother y'all? Realtors were noticing that announcing the "master suite" to their black customers wasn't always received well.
A trend?

A trend, by definition, is something that catches on. It's been 35 years. How much longer do you plan on giving it?

mas·ter bed·room

noun: master bedroom; plural noun: master bedrooms
the main or largest bedroom in a house or apartment.
"the master bedroom overlooks the communal garden, as do the bathroom and kitchen"

Anything can be read into. But that’s been the definition for quite some time.

And master bedroom would be for the master of the house. It’s common sense, or so you’d think.

Not necessarily.

When one couple can't come up with enough down payment on a new home, the current thing is for other couples to join in and pool their down payment savings until there's enough to secure a new home.

The Owner's suite goes to the folks who put the most into the pool, as they have the largest stake in the house.
When the pool shares are equal, the big suite goes to the couple by other means, such as a coin toss.

None of this has a master-slave relationship. It's more like shareholders in a corporation. Since housing has gone up so much, multiple ownership is becoming an increasingly popular choice, especially among young couples who have no children.

That's not to say the old term doesn't have a racist connotation, but most of the time, the term referred to the Master of the house. That master was the guy with the mortgage, and he could be female instead of male, or of any race.

The terminology is always nothing but a sales device anyway. "Estates" were once called "Ranchettes". Same amount of land, same kind of house, different eras.
