$39 billion is a fair amount. That’d be like 10x that in the US.
Tell that to all the businesses in Niagara Falls Ontario and many other border areas. They make much of their money from US citizens. Much of the income of people living in those areas is made up of money spent by US citizens.
I think they are reading or seeing hyped up media reports.
Numbers are up in Canada, sure, but it isn't even close to what you guys have in the US.
If they are afraid of the vaccine, that says quite a bit to me, about their ability to judge the situations rationally.
Canada has a case fatality rate much higher than the US. What that means if someone gets infected, they are more likely to die in Canada than in the US. The vaccines are proven to be safe and effective. Early on the US contracted to by enough doses to vaccinate every person with millions of doses to spare.

Using a case fatality rate is misleading, since the US took a different approach to testing, and tested more people. It doesn't tell the full story. It does not mean that if someone gets infected, they have a higher chance of dying in Canada, than the US. That said, it's not MUCH higher in the US, it's 1.8 percent, Canada is 2.2 percent.
A better way to see how a country is doing is to look at the ACTUAL number of deaths per capita.
As, it has been pointed out before, the US has over THREE times more deaths by Covid per million, than Canada does.
As for procuring vaccines, Canada had procured millions of does, mores than our population, it's just that we were let down by the suppliers. Things are bouncing back up. All my friends have their first dose, and I get mine on Monday.
As for which country is safer to travel in? I'd say neither. I certainly wouldn't risk going to some parts of the US, and I certainly wouldn't risk travelling within Canada. Everyone should just stay put until it is truly safe to travel in either country.
As it relates to vaccine, it’s all socialized. Who do you think is paying for doses, staffing physical sites, etc. in the US?
Seems Canada was a tad slow ordering vaccines, not too diff than the Trump Admin who allowed multiple options to order more Pfizer to expire, last summer. It finally ordered another 100 million doses on 12/23. Delivery is expected 6/30-7/31.
We’ll be swimming in vaccine this summer and will likely help out out her countries as was done with the great ventilator give-a-way, last year.
Israel continues to be the most vaccinated country because they were willing to pay a premium to get more.
Canada is not eager to welcome any non Canadians and returning Canadians. One needs a recent negative tests and then self fund a mandatory 14 day quarantine in a designated hotel ,at the traveller’s expense.
Several countries have imposed serious restrictions on travel. Israel closed all international airports. No one, including returning ccitizens could enter. Australia and NZ mandate 14 day quarantines. Japan has not been too keen on admitting any outsiders.
In order for a returning US citizen to be admitted , he must demonstrate a very recent negative test. If positive, he will not be able to board a flight home until he quarantines in place and can provide a negative test.
In the meantime, the likes of DeSantis threatens to sue the CDC if it does not allow cruise ships to sail from Florida ports. It’s a political stunt given there is no port that is going to welcome thousands of passengers, right now. And what becomes of those passengers who test positive during the cruise?
I would say if CDC USA is saying DONT GO,the reality is GO GO GO!!!
The reality is Canada says, no thank you.
You need a negative test and to self fund a 14 day quarantine at a hotel designated for that purpose. Your meals will be delivered to your room.
