that is because for some folks if they are truly honest about slavery they will say they dont think it was that bad since it was protected by “laws” or they know its so cruel to admit it would make them feel guilty.

No one should feel guilty for slavery today.. but damn, is it really that hard to say it was an ugly stain our our history and we shouldn’t praise those who were willing to die to defend it.

what is funny is people on the other side always trying to make the left into Nazi’s or the Taliban or Apartheid.

Slavery wasn’t even good for the whites of the south. Brought nothing but high levels of poverty and a lack of jobs for the south. Only ones that benefited were rich landowners.

I don't think ALL of the locals will complain. Last I checked, African-Americans aren't complaining. Polls have been done on this.

why only 61% of Blacks favor removal of Confederate general statues?

why would 53% think we also need to remove those of ANY slaveholder (to include Washington etal of the founding fathers)?

Big difference. Stop being a child.
But wait, why does he keep saying "As a black man" then?

Why does everyone in this thread keep bringing up SLAVERY then? Have you not read it????

Is that just my imagination? Stop being a child for pointing out massive inconsistencies in the book burning mindset?

It's still a majority. You haven't refuted that a majority of Blacks favor removing Confederate generals.

As for why some people would favor removing Washington? My theory is this. Many people view pre-1965 America from a very grim point of view.

Is there any comparison imaginable in which Washington doesn't trump some trite television show?
Bo and Luke Duke never owned hundreds of slaves like GW did.

They never codified slaves to be 3/5ths of a person.

They were a fictitious TV show in the late 70s and early 80s that merely drove a car called the General Lee and they are banished!

Did GW own slaves? Did he say slaves were 3/5ths of a person?

Were the confederates fighting to keep slaves and the things the founders established?

Yes, yes, yes and yes.

You're inconsistent.

Confederate statues and Confederate flags do not belong in public spaces. They should never be funded with public money.
But they are, have been, and can continue to be as long as the citizens (aka the taxpayers) wish.

Books are great. People should read books about Lee, get an idea of just how wholeheartedly contemptuous he was towards what he thought of as lesser races. He was an excessively harsh slavemaster, even for his day.

See, you learn history from books. Not statues.
What are your thoughts on what lincoln said? That Whites are naturally the superior race? You seem to be turning a blind eye to things that almost everyone said at the time.
