A hundred years ago women had no choice but to marry young so as not to burden their families.

Now they have the choice to postpone childbearing or never breed and to be self supporting so have more control over their own lives.

Still a couple, often with a couple kids by that time. And they stay together.
In certain parts of rural Mexico maybe it's "Normal" due to low education levels, but in most major urban cities this is prohibited and discouraged until age 18.

Quincinera celebration is 15, that would be the earliest most self respecting traditional families would give their daughter.

Let's not forget native women died young due to childbearing, poor nutrition and poor living conditions. They had to pop those babies out to be farm hands, many would die in infancy, to keep their community alive.

We're comparing apples and oranges.

DEPORT THEM!

It's disgusting that a social worker is on here making excuses for a 24 year old MAN impregnating an 11/12 year old girl.

If you're referring to me, when I was practicing I insisted on charges being filed in cases where the moms were much older than this one, actually.

This is just a factor of their culture, though, and he didn't appear to know (nor did anyone in their families) that it was actually illegal.

It's "normal" here, in newly immigrated communities. By "normal", I mean accepted and common, which is the definition of normal.

If you watch missing persons stories, you'll see a lot of this. Suddenly the 14 year old girl is missing, and within a few days they realize the family friend who is 25 is also missing. And they're found in Mexico, where they choose to remain.

We shouldn't allow people into the country who don't understand and agree to live by OUR standard of normal.

I don't know their status, but I suspect they aren't here legally.
