Ha, capitalism in the USA really has gone awry. For starters, Wal-Mart drove out nearly all its competitors. Target is the only major one left. High tech firms, like Google and Facebooks are practically monopolies. The electronic and print media enjoy less competition. So all or nearly all the commercial radio stations in my town are owned by one company. It all adds up to lobbying for less and less competition and getting yet more influence promoted by their lobbyists in Congress. Never forget the ultimate goal of capitalists is to do away with the competition as much as possible to achieve monopolies. Buying out the competition is one of the favorite ways to do it.

We are seeing the early innings of hyper inflation. This will end up making the history books.

That's not capitalism. That's crony capitalism, which, again, is the government's doing.

The government is ALWAYS the problem. This is what happens when a bunch of people with a badge who face no consequences for their malfeasance and incompetence go around regulating complex industries they don't understand.

In a purely capitalistic system, no one entity can sustain a monopoly for very long except in very few industries.

Dicks' is doing well.
People like Dick's.
unfortunately for Seattle area, there are more dogs (4 legs) than there are "people" (2 legs) in the available labor pool.

I don't get this either.

$19 an hour won't qualify you for a studio apartment in the Seattle area, much less need to worry much about childcare costs.

If there are other options, should it be any surprise that people are choosing to take them?

Yes I caught that -- $21 with a skills test as well.

Skills test? Take your "job" and shove it. That shows what kind of employer you will be working for. No wonder people aren't applying.

I have a sneaking suspicion (and I am sure applicants do as well) that the supposed benefits are lies that have conditions attached. Like you have to work there 6 months before you get anything and during the "probation period" they can do whatever they want to you.

Nope.

Do you smoke marijuana? Yes? Rejected!
Have you ever spent any time in prison? Yes? Rejected!
Do you have sex offender status? Yes? Rejected!
Have you ever had a DUI? Yes? Rejected! (In NV if a nurse gets a DUI she can lose her Nurse's License)

Back a decade or more ago, when there was a worker shortage, a manufacturer in South Carolina was searching high and low for workers, and come to find out, he had rejected 60 applicants because they couldn't pass the drug test!

And yet, if you're an alcoholic, you pass the test and you're hired!
