My husband was in the building industry.

I can't say the learning curve was that big of a deal.

One day we commented on it being 75....next day 24.

We are still in the process it seems.

Things like litres, kilometres, grams, kilo's and Celsius seem to be the ones that everyone uses and knows, except when it comes to ones weight. Depending on the generation, people express it in pounds.

Lumber is still sold in the old Imperial measurements as are a lot of building supplies.

Square footage is still very common in real estate, over square metres.

I had some metric nuts and bolts in my Chevy Tahoe that was built in Texas.

Every time I go to the booze store to get some USA made Kentucky Bourbon, I always try to find the Quart size bottles, but all I can find are stupid liter bottles. It drives a man to drink.

Never met an engineer, carpenter, architect or machinist who had an issue converting from SAE to metric or vice versa. Most do it in their heads to precision.

People crying about SAE are mentally incompetent and produce nothing of value anyway.

Think yourselves lucky in the US - because in the UK we use both metric and imperial! beer is sold in pints, distance is measured in miles and meters! Weight in stones and pounds, as for temperature people often use fahrenheit when its hot and Celcius when its cold!

You are correct.

I recall they tried very hard to teach it for a time, it wasn't happening, and then it was just Poof.....gone.

Metric is promoted by those who don't see the difference between the US and the rest of the world. The new immigrants, too. With a possible exception of the military folks, who seem to prefer metric, the rest of the country is doing just fine on the Imperial system. I hope more countries will follow us!

Yes, kids are primarily taught metric in school. In a few years it would be easier than today.

Been tried, didn't take.

And right now we've got plenty other to worry about.

Forget it.
