Smallpox vaccines are only about 95% effective - the same as the mRNAs are for the wild variant of covid. Eradication was the work of millions of people not only to vaccinate the entire world but to track every breakthrough, isolate it and identify all contacts and isolate them. The world is very different today with planes and migration. The virus is different too at its core. Smallpox is a DNA double strand virus and is pretty stable. Covid is an RNA virus with an internal proofreading mechanism that shows a great ability to evolve in ways that thwart our efforts to control it while protecting it from extincting itself (it almost seems like it was made this way rather than an accident of nature )

"Virtually every case of the Omicron variant to date has been found in fully vaccinated students, a portion of whom had also received a booster shot," said Vice President for University Relations Joel Malina in a statement.

This is now a pandemic of the vaccinated. Time to fire everyone who is vaccinated and refuses to get unvaccinated.
One more time, vaccinated make up around 70% of the country and they will always be a majority since they can test positive for Omicron. Right now they are also the leading edge since only vaccinated can travel internationally, that will change. The important issue is that the vaccinated are not overwhelming hospitals and ICUs, its the unvaccinated even though they are only 30% of the population.

We have an unhealthy President in office.
He can be told/made what to do by unworthy people.

These restrictions, economic and foreign policies are hurting this country.

My wife refuses to wear a mask until she is told to and then she normally just leaves the establishment.
She doesn’t make a scene. She might ask it these mandates make any sense then politely leaves.
She has had Covid, a double shot and is healthy.
I am proud of her for taking a stand.
We need more of us not to comply with this tyranny.
Always good to hear comments on masks from medical experts like yourself.

Yes we need more people to not comply so the virus can surge more rapidly.

I'm unvaccinated and logged over 100,000 international miles

The problem with masks is that people think that just because you and I are wearing masks, they come close to you. They don't realize that masks need to be combined with social distancing. But with most people, it's either/or.

Thank you for acknowledging the vaccinated are the ones bringing Covid into the country.

This is a pandemic of the vaccinated and it's time to fire the vaccinated who refuse to get unvaccinated.

I agree, masks are far from perfect and people should still distance.

Well I guess they could have stopped all international travel.
