Why would you think this war would be significantly different? Russia has an state of the art military, particularly their infantry and ground troops which have at least as much capability as the USA. And the oligarchy has enormous wealth to pour into the expansion of the empire.

Not only that but we now know that Xi has Putin's back, he has a vested interest in seeing a prolonged conflict surrounding Russian expansion in the West, which will provide a smokescreen for his aggression in the far East.

The idea that Russia will swallow Ukraine and suddenly abandon their desire to keep extending their empire is naive. This rebuilding effort began back in 1994 with Chechnya, and has continued unabated with Georgia and Crimea and now Ukraine.

After Putin secures Ukraine, and the dust has settled and the mass graves are covered, he will move to establish bases all along the Western frontier with Poland and Hungary. In preparation for the next invented "crisis" to give him a pretext to attack the countries on his border.

All the signs are pointing to a war that will grow to envelope much of the free world in one way or another. One difference is that we have the experience of WW2 to look back on. The Allies waited far too long to move to stop Hitler. That's not going to happen this time.

You are repeating Russian propaganda and accusing the Ukrainian government of being dominated by those elements. One thing I know is that the government there is almost as corrupt as the one in Russia.

Putin's essay made it clear that he never saw Ukraine as a real country, so these excuses of the Ukrainian class being Nazis, nationalists and drug addicts are a red herring. Putin's goal is to subsume Ukraine similar to what they did to Belarus.

russian ground doctrine 101: shell civilian targets during cease fire talks.

we turn to european news: 1) 'talks ongoing' 2) heavy shelling and rocket attacks on civilians in kharkiv Ukr.

Russia has a lot to worry about this morning.

As predicted, they have become international pariahs and everyone from BP to UPS is cutting ties with them. .

Russia inflation 20%+. Ruble worth almost nothing. Stock market collapse today forcing it to be closed.

To label a divergent view "propaganda" is not an argument. Please present one - if you have one.

As I wrote - the sooner this ends the better for everybody involved. But Russia wants this war to ends on terms favorable to itself.

Whether the oligarchs are willing to pour their rapidly depleting wealth into Putin's dream of getting the old band together remains to be seen.

The phrase, "money down a rat hole," comes to mind.

But yes, EU, UK, US, ... all realize that appeasing aggressors never really turns out well over the long haul. Best to get on with it.
