I think public support will plummet after a year of this. Maybe only then will we do what we should have been doing all along ... six months of DST, from the first weekend of April to the first weekend of October, followed by six months of standard.
I cannot overstate how much I hate the idea of year-round DST, especially here in Ohio, the western portion of our time zone. I understand why areas such as New England and New York would love this.
In Columbus, the sun will come up at 8:30 a.m. or after from Nov. 28-Feb. 9 (10 weeks!!), with the latest sunrise at 8:52 right around the first of the year. The northwestern corner of the state would have sunrise after 9 a.m. for a full month from December into January.
That is going to screw with people big-time, especially people who already suffer from SAD in the winter. Mental health is going to be a real issue, and that likely is what it will take to realize what a stupid idea this is.
Short of that, we might see a mass shift eastward in time zones.
While I would far prefer permanent standard time, the best solution might be to move 30 minutes back from DST and have that be it.

In Boise Idaho we have light till 10PM during summer. Can't even shoot off fireworks on on the 4th. of July, till after 10PM. Kids hate going to bed, with the sun still out.

Which will be permanent when this law is enacted.

Amazing anytime all Democrats and Republicans can agree on something in the Senate.

It's dark enough here at 9:30PM for fireworks to start, and nobody complains that it's too late.

Yep, same thing in Northern Michigan where i used to live. It's ridiculous to have daylight till 10 pm in the summer and horrible for those of us who live in the southwest that have daylight till 8 pm in the scorching heat.

You just have to move further south and the sun won't set before 4:30PM!
