Actually, waking up early doesn't solve the problem. People go to work and then end up getting off after dark all winter long. Most people would prefer to get home when there is a little sunshine left in the day. I think that's reasonable.
Standard time is my preference if people are needing to do this. DST is fake. Senate is stupid for bothering with this now. Distraction while the country falls apart.
As usual.. this is something stupid that largely got going in the media.
I do not want it.
It will make things dark early in the morning.
The only people who want this is people that don't work or go to school.
While I agree there are bigger issues in the world...
Your last sentence is wrong. I work and do want permanent DST, as I do not care how dark it is in the morning. Sitting in an office or factory, what am I going to do with sunlight? I'd rather have a little of it in the evening when I get off work on those early sunset winter days.
Can people not function when it's dark outside? What is this complaint? Do you not have lights? I don't understand the huge inconvenience. Set an alarm, turn a light on?
I grew up in the UK, in winter it gets dark about 4:45pm, conversely, it wouldn't get dark until 10:45pm in the summer. That's what happens. I don't understand why people like late sunsets either, but we can't change it. Just set a time, be done with it, ideally a standard time, I like the sun being overhead for midday, means my sundial is more correct. We can't change the rate of rotation of the earth or rotational tilt.
Personally, I think it's great. I'll have time to work out after work in the light. When I was in IT and long shifts I'd drive in and back home in the dark. Very depressing.
They should've split the difference and did a one time 30 minute time shift. Doesn't matter though. The house will likely muck it up and try to add a "voter's rights" rider to it(like they did with a NASA spending bill), dooming it when it goes back to the Senate for reconciliation.

That's my concern as well. I hope they leave it alone and pass it on its own.
