Also wonder how many of the shooters were already out on bail for violent offenses.
For anyone that's not from Chicago (and I am - and the city, not like Barrington or something ) what Mathguy is saying is 100% dead on accurate.

Even when crime was HORRIBLE in Chgo in the 80s-90s, downtown was exceedingly safe. You could walk Michigan Ave from the Art Institute up to the Drake and never once feel like you were ever going to be a crime victim. Never even crossed my mind.

Yeah I know Google is my friend. This morning it's mostly on our local news outlets and I'm sure it was/will be picked up by national media as well. Now more importantly lets see if the Presidents addresses it

Door to door searches and confiscations WILL happen at some point...and yes, that will lead to a blood bath, and maybe that is intentional. I dont think all these shootings are coincidental, i think many were planned and carried out for specific reasons.

The stage we are at right now...getting society to the point of no longer tolerating these shootings, the more that happen and the more that result in children being victims makes this move faster.
Nope - not gonna happen because reasonable folks know that it will not change anything except give the drug cartels a new and highly profitable market. Plus the idea that we need to deprive 1/3 of american households of their constitutional rights because of the regretable actions of a few mentally ill individuals is just nonsense. It simply is a dumb idea for America.

We need leaders that will unite us instead of dividing us, for a start.

The shooting happened in one of the more trendy neighborhoods that usually don't see these types of shootings.
Maybe now the liberals will realize firsthand that voting has consequences?

I can't stand him for obvious reasons

I didn't vote for him in 2020 so why would I vote for him now? That's not the point. He is the president and should address these mass shootings but for some reason he picks and chooses which ones he addresses and which ones he seems to ignore.
The president is only the leader of the government, that has nothing to do with the rest of us. Politicians arent our leaders.

Do you think that the US president should make a speech after each shooting above x number of deaths? What kinds of things do you think it is important for a president to say in these speeches?

You mean he shouldn't have gone to New York to give this speech either and maybe provide so assistance to local gov. agencies? Ok

I wasn't sure it was getting that much worse but I think I've seen enough now to change my mind.

I mean there were things that happened now and then back in the day, even in nice areas...but not this frequently.

The violence is especially up in the bad areas, I really feel sorry for the innocents that are stuck in those crummy nieghborhoods.

I dont give too much thought to what politicians do. They dont add any value. Ideally they just sit in their offices and play solitaire.

I just am impressed by how much you value Joe Biden's speeches. Do you find him to be a good speech maker that can move you emotionally? I wonder what it is that they can say in these speeches that you are so impressed by. I would think they would just become repetitive and without meaning.

The violence in areas that are accustomed to having violence has remained pretty steady but has seen an increase in the last couple of years as well. It's the areas where you didn't see as much violence in the past that it's now going up. Downtown Chicago for example but also Lakeview Lincoln Park, Wicker Park and elsewhere.
