I’m outraged over books on hunting and wouldn’t want my kid exposed to pictures of bloody animal carcasses. Should they be removed due to my distaste? Books should be distributed to age appropriate areas. I’m pretty sure there are no “pornographic” books in the children’s part of the library. If parents aren’t taking responsibility to make sure their kids stay in the area with appropriate books that’s on them.
I would normally agree with your sentiment. However, the book ‘Gender Qu**r’, one of the books this library houses, depicts child pornography. Specifically, nine year old boys giving and receiving oral sex. It also depicts a young girl tasting her “vagina slime.”. Books depicting the sexualization of children have no place in a taxpayer funded public building, just as the act of sexualizing children has no place in our society. This should be something we can all agree on. There is no comparison between child pornography and hunting. To do so normalizes the sexualization of children, as though there is nothing wrong with it.

Sounds like a community choosing for themselves what should be available in their community.
As it should be.
We're one country.
We're 50 states.
We're 3,142 counties.
We're 19,502 cities.
We're countless townships, neighborhoods and communities.
Each is part of the whole, and each is also different.
What's right for your community may not be right for mine, and neither of us have the right to dictate to the other how they must run their community, city, county or state.
Sounds like a community off the tracks because of a conspiracy.
Maybe. But you know what? It's their library, funded by their tax dollars. They asked the librarians to remove one particular book, and they refused. In other words, they refused to follow the wishes of those who pay their salaries. And since the people did not get what they wanted directly, they decided to get what they wanted by just shutting the whole thing down. One might say it's a bit extreme, to shut the whole thing down over one single book. But it's their tax money, and they have a right to see it spent the way they want.
No longer having access to the library likely won't matter much. Probably most town citizens haven't walked into to library in many years.
Assuming the library is now underfunded, what services will be cut? Does the library risk closing and now leaving the township with a derelict building, contents, severance/unemployment pay for the staff PLUS a lack of services? Seems short sighted if the budget was truly defeated because of one new program or highlighted series.

Then why the heck did that book receive an Alex Award in 2020, an award given by the American Library Association to "books written for adults that have special appeal to young adults ages 12 through 18"? Kids don't need books to find out about how to do sex acts. They can learn it from each other. It sounded like that is how the authors of those LGBT books did it.
Kids don't necessarily need books to find out what the various sex acts mean. I didn't know what the work fu&k meant until another kid my age told me what it meant. Should that kid have been sent to reform school for telling me that? My 8 year old cousin sounded like he knew what oral sex was. If somebody taught him that, should that person have been in big trouble?
To no surprise, the book's sales have increased following challenges and bans. It's one of the best things that can happen to slow sales of a book.

What's wrong with people just not liking that sort of stuff in their libraries?
They're not into it. What's the crime?
They shouldn't need to explain themselves.
If someone asked them to vote to include it or not, it's ok to say no, right? Otherwise why even ask?
Once again, it's due to the parents' fear that LGBT themed books will indoctrinate, groom, or inspire their kids to turn into homosexuals and transexuals. While there at it, they might as well see to it that homosexual and transsexual kids are banned or expelled from school out of fear those kids will do the same to the straight kids.
I liked and supported our local libraries for years. In fact, I used them a lot and loved my local one. About 2 years ago they went full-on woke. All the books on display everywhere are now anti-white, LGBT, or anti-Trump. I still really like the idea of libraries but I’m very reluctant to continue to support ours.
For equal representation, I hope the library also offers pro Trump books. There are a bunch of them, including at least one written for children.
