The current issue on TikTok while strengthened from the Trump criticism on it (which honestly shows how thin-skinned Trump, MAGA and conservatives really are and how anti-free speech they are), the bipartisanship is not about that. The bipartisan support for the bans of TikTok have been related to the earlier comment I made of TikTok being a spyware tool for China.
"Anti-free speech" like how Twitter was before Musk took over and restored some balance?

You remember, when Twitter was in the Democrat's pocket and censored anything but the Democrat party line?

Who's thin-skinned again?

They do. They don't cave and will risk losing what they desire. For some reason the Republicans feel they must make 'a deal' but there are times when a NO or NEA will do. If the Republicants were making good deals the Dems wouldn't be voting 100% in favor most or all Dem legislation.

American Silver Eagles are the I-Phones of silver bullion- highly overpriced, but people keep buying them anyway due to brand recognition and brand loyalty.

Silver is silver. There's no need to spend 30-50 percent more for the same amount of the stuff. That's why I stick with bars and rounds. I just keep it cheap, and I keep it simple.

Welcome to my world.

In response to "What happened to inflation?":

Derek Thompson takes a longer view of the present situation, deeper in history than I had been thinking, all the way back to the 2008 housing crisis. It's worth listening to:

How? What happened to party discipline?
Government shutdowns aren't very popular. We have seen quite a few since the TEA Party revolution and it always ends up hurting people. It hurts government workers who are out of work through a furlough or forced to work without pay because they are "essential." It hurt government contractors because they too are furloughed. That said unlike government workers, contractors are not always entitled to back-pay when the government re-opens. All the while, the idiots grandstanding like Senator Paul and Cruz or the House Freedom Caucus have their corrupt asses paid. Their constituents who maybe government workers living hand to mouth for the weeks the government is shutdown are told to eat cake by these a-holes.

There are two parties, there is not one hive-mind party. The past 12 years should have shown that with the TEA Party and now MAGA Republicans rearing their ugly heads and kicking out the alleged RINOs who were willing to compromise on government shutdowns. The fact is many politicians only call it pork and earmarks when it doesn't effect them. Look at the affirmentioned Senators Paul and Cruz. Paul was against COVID funding, Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy FEMA relief, the 9/11 Heroes Act and most recently the Burn-Pit ban bill. Cruz too on many of these issues. Mind you when Texas had their bad ice storm in 2021 and Kentucky had their Indian Summer floods this year, guess who were front-and-center asking for FEMA funds...

The murmurs became much louder in the years since this, so much so federal agents are asked to remove it a presidential memo to federal agencies and now caudified in this onimbus spending bill.

So banning someone for saying a threat of violence, pushing misinformation or using racial, sexual and religious slurs is "anti-free speech" now when it breaks a website or application terms of service? Weird. As for what is happening on Twitter now, Musk has re-opened it to the racist and sexist tweets and has banned people who put Musk in their name yet do not always change their picture to be that as well as those promoting Mastodon. How can you be for the use of TOS and say that is not free speech for this but say that threats of violence, misinformation dissemination and use of slurs are not breaking TOS and free speech?

I don't recall that, even on Facebook. I have seen a lot of questionable content flagged but not taken down and less questionable content flagged for moderation but not. Just like a certain forum...

The process these 'professional' politicians is akin o a circular firing squad. It's designed to illicit yes votes by extortion because they don't want to vote on bills one by one they want to hide their deals, horse trading and programs/funding that benefit them. Alot of these projects & funding are pet projects for personal favors and votes. Alone those politicians would have to explain themselves. Lumped in & hidden in a 4,000 page bill their will be no explaining to do.

They aren't. Governments have every incentive to understate the true extent of inflation.
