How do you not comprehend that someone can have wealth, but may not necessarily have an income in any particular year?

Please tell me you DON'T have a college degree. If you do, you should get a refund. This is basic math. When a business owners' losses are greater than their profits, there is no profit/income on which to be taxed.

I'm sorry but you're just flat out wrong. Everyone sings European social democracy countries' praises, and they all tax REGRESSIVELY. No one at the bottom of their income spectrum is harmed in the process.

To recap the lesson from the research presented in the WaPo article: Progressive taxation is NEGATIVELY correlated to redistribution. The more progressive the tax system, the less redistribution there is, simply because depending on only a very small percent of the population at the top for tax revenue doesn't generate enough funding for redistributive social programs.

"- a national sales tax -" only, is something have been for for a long time now.

Look at how much we could save, "The IRS FY 2023 budget request is $14.1 billion, $2.2 billion (18.3 percent) more than the
FY 2022 annualized continuing resolution level of $11.92 billion."

"I blame W"

The uninformed speak again

"Tax revenues INCREASED after the tax cuts were implemented

"Publication: Business Wire
Date: Friday, January 4 2008

"WASHINGTON -- Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released new jobs figures - 18,000 jobs created in December. Since August 2003, more than 8.3 million jobs have been created, with more than 1.3 million jobs created throughout 2007. Our economy has now added jobs for 52 straight months - the longest period of uninterrupted job growth on record"

" * Real GDP grew at a strong 4.9 percent annual rate in the third quarter of 2007. The economy has now experienced six years of uninterrupted growth, averaging 2.8 percent a year since 2001.

* Real after-tax per capita personal income has risen by 11.7 percent - an average of more than $3,550 per person - since President Bush took office.

* Over the course of this Administration, productivity growth has averaged 2.6 percent per year. This growth is well above average productivity growth in the 1990s, 1980s, and 1970s."

"But the real jolt for tax-cutting opponents was that the 03 Bush tax cuts also generated a massive increase in federal tax receipts. From 2004 to 2007, federal tax revenues increased by $785 billion, the largest four-year increase in American history. According to the Treasury Department, individual and corporate income tax receipts were up 40 percent in the three years following the Bush tax cuts. And (bonus) the rich paid an even higher percentage of the total tax burden than they had at any time in at least the previous 40 years."

"The Iraq Liberation Act of 1998"

"President Clinton stated in February 1998:
Iraq admitted, among other things, an offensive biological warfare capability, notably, 5,000 gallons of botulinum, which causes botulism; 2,000 gallons of anthrax; 25 biological-filled Scud warheads; and 157 aerial bombs. And I might say UNSCOM inspectors believe that Iraq has actually greatly understated its production. ...
Over the past few months, as [the weapons inspectors] have come closer and closer to rooting out Iraq's remaining nuclear capacity, Saddam has undertaken yet another gambit to thwart their ambitions by imposing debilitating conditions on the inspectors and declaring key sites which have still not been inspected off limits. ...
It is obvious that there is an attempt here, based on the whole history of this operation since 1991, to protect whatever remains of his capacity to produce weapons of mass destruction, the missiles to deliver them, and the feed stocks necessary to produce them. The UNSCOM inspectors believe that Iraq still has stockpiles of chemical and biological munitions, a small force of Scud-type missiles, and the capacity to restart quickly its production program and build many, many more weapons. ...
Now, let's imagine the future. What if he fails to comply and we fail to act, or we take some ambiguous third route, which gives him yet more opportunities to develop this program of weapons of mass destruction and continue to press for the release of the sanctions and continue to ignore the solemn commitments that he made? Well, he will conclude that the international community has lost its will. He will then conclude that he can go right on and do more to rebuild an arsenal of devastating destruction. And some day, some way, I guarantee you he'll use the arsenal. ...

This is easy. This is because most Republicans in power of congress as well as the judges are nothing more than establishment puppets that serve the same masters as the democrats. Just saying, but any politician that has some kind of connection to the Bush family is not a friend of the USA or it's constitution. They are allies to the corporate and banking world leaders. These are the same people that also control the majority of the media as well as the prestige universities so they can control what information is given to the people and also control what kind of leaders and professionals are allowed to perform in society. It's all rigged from the top to the bottom. And it isn't going to get any better until we have a civil war.

Gov't spending has gone from 10% of GDP in 1930 to >50% of GDP in 2023. (this chart stops at 2018 & doesn't include the last $10T)

If people here can't see that BOTH political parties have us drowning in debt, there's nothing I can say to help you.

Which party is worse matters not...we are sinking.

The longer the DC swamp keeps us all divided, the longer the music plays on.

I completely comprehend it now tell me how you can give a pass to a millionaire for being able to write off business losses to negate their tax obligation yet complain that someone at the other end of the financial spectrum isn't "paying their fair share" as theirs is erased due to income level, deductions, and dependents?

What you keep forgetting with the millionaire is even with business losses they still have income from investments which is probally well above what the more modest person even makes in a year. Maybe you missed the Business Math Course when you were in school.

As previously posted if Warren Buffets secretary is paying more in taxes than he is something is wrong with the codes.
