Here's who actually pays no Individual Federal Income Tax, by income level. The dark bar is the percent at that income level that pay no IFIT:

https://www.statista.com/statistics/...-income-level/

If the rich have "far more opportunities" to not pay, why is it that 29.6% at the $50,000 to $75,000 level pay no IFIT whatsoever but that percentage drops down to 0.4% at the $500,000 to $1 million level?

When push comes to shove neither party cares about spending and budgets. The GOP used to but that ship sailed years ago. Sure they are pretending to care now. But they will let the debt ceiling be raised and have no real intention of stopping it. Yes the dems are worse on this. But not by much.

Both parties just seem to care about banning things the other side wants. Guns, abortions, books, gas stoves. It goes on and on.

What you're saying is that if we had a Republican president we could expect more of the same. Way too much spending, upping the debt.

So far the reasoning here is: the GOP is powerless, AND they're somehow too busy to think about the debt. So they'll keep running it up.

Ergo vote GOP!

Um

No thanks.
"Excuses, excuses, excuses."

Everything you stated CAN be just as well be applied to the EMS!

It's funny, we NEVER hear complains from our dem friends when the dems control things and pass all sots of spending bills, raising the debt.

"Biden's Spending Spree Is Unprecedented"

Chew on THAT!

"More than any time in recent history, the consequences of government over-spending are becoming apparent. Inflation continues to be well above the Federal Reserve's target, and the national debt recently topped $31 trillion for the first time in U.S. history—just eight months after it crossed $30 trillion. Yet few seem to connect these events with one of their underlying causes: President Joe Biden's continued spending binge. Tacking on $1 trillion in debt in barely more than half a year used to be unheard of. But that norm went out the window."

So spare us the crocodile tears!

Taxes need to be increased if we want to cut the deficit, we need to pay our bills.

I rate your claim as being MOSTLY FALSE

If we increase tax rates, tax revenues will fall, if we want more tax revenues, we must DECREASE tax rates...see the Laffer Curve:

This theory has proven to be correct nearly every time. Want proof?

During the Trump tax cuts, tax revenues coming into the U.S. Treasury INCREASED.

Yes...but that will never happen because it's easier just to raise the debt ceiling again like they're considering now and kick the can down the road, but nothing will ever get fixed unless a balanced budget law is passed that holds both parties accountable.

The OP needs to get their facts in order.
The Republican proposal increases the debt limit but reduces some of the spending proposals put forth in Biden's "Inflation Reduction Act" like adding 87,000 armed IRS agents for example.
During the Trump Administration, he could have come down from the highest mountain, carrying the 10 commandments on two stones, walked on water to present it and every Democrat would have voted against them!

I never believed them, same as I never believe a Democrat who promises something like "cracking down on crime."

History predicts the future. Both parties, top to bottom, are filled entirely with feckless, lying grifters who only care about ONE thing - their own power/wealth. Period. They will always and forever follow that one thing as their guiding principle, forsaking all other things. You and I are simply resources for their consumption.

$6.7 trillion to be exact under the prior one-term administration!

In fact EVERY republican administration has increase the debt by cutting taxes for the wealthy. Then when the Dems get in office the Republican scream that we have "spending problem". We don't have a spending problem we have a taxation problem.

Yes, spending can be reduced and controlled but all of the tax revenue that we loose with every republican administration could pay off the national debt if they were reversed. And we could have low cost college education, child care, and low cost health care.

PS. I'm just a peasant and I think the billionaires will be okay without my support, why do my fellow peasants on the left and right feel so compelled to coddle the billionaires. And I'll let you in a secret - they don't care about you!
