US Army deserter ordered deported from Canada
I thought that desertion in time of war was punishable by death. At least it used to be. Five years is a joke and will not set the proper example here which is that you have to honor the commitments you make, especially one as serious as this. It makes a mockery of my nephew and others now serving, as well as those who went and came home in a box.

This country needs to grow a set of gonads and get back to our roots. In WWII and before, we shot deserters. Now we do documentaries on them. What a joke.

I think you are right! Is there a difference if they go AWOL before they get to the battlefront??

Don't look at this as a "Oh he was 21 he should of known better" . Understand that a lot of people who join have absolutely nothing going for them at all and feel like its their only option. So they are gullible to believe the stuff that is being told to them.

Oh and I have a quick ? aren't they really lying because I have been told by a some vets in my class that GI bill has ran out in a few months and some have said it only works for 3 years. A major reason why people join is for the free college so whats the deal with that?
It all depends on the GI Bill that you qualify for. Mine was a gutted version thanks to Carter. Mine was simple for every dollar I put in the Navy put in 2.00. That is irrelevent because some in as long as the deserter had to know the ropes before he re-enlisted. He deserves his punishment its that simple.

I think both parties slice and dice military benefits which is why neither is worth a damn.

From what I understand the old GOP was pro benefits this one is a disgrace
