It's easy to say someone else should pay higher taxes when it's not your money!!

I wish more wealthy people would contribute to charities, etc. However, why should people who find themselves in a very comfortable situation financially be responsible to basically support some welfare program that Nobama wants to force upon the American people?

The property tax amount of ~$3,0000/year seems pretty low for a condo in La Jolla. That's lower than our taxes in Austin- hardly beachfront in California.
I never claimed to be a moderator but I wasn't the one that made a claim that her taxes were too low.

You keep making unfounded statements and I called you on it.

Did you check to see what the taxes on similar condos were?

You also probably didn't check the tax rates for the different areas. California property taxes are, I believe, capped at 1% of assessed value due to Proposition 13. What is Austins? 3%? That could be a big reason why your taxes are higher.

In your first statement you stated that if you didn't pay your taxes they would come take it. In San Diego County they have 5 years before they can put the house up for sale.

This was nothing to do with petty control issues as you claimed, it has to do with you just posting what ever comes to mind whether it has basis in fact or not.

Here is the reality that I'm talking about. This is the actual condo in questions. Google the address and you'll see that it is hers.

8263 Camino Del Oro Unit 379, La Jolla, CA 92037

If you follow the link, you will find that:
1)The property the taxable value of the property is $143,671 for 2008
2)According to Zillow, the property's estimated sale price would be $1,077,000.
Can you explain why the McCains are paying only $1,753 in property taxes on a condo that is actually worth a million dollars?

Do you know when they originally bought it?
Do you know how much they purchased it for?
Do you know what they assessment was when they purchased it?

California Proposition 13 limits increases assessments to 2% per year. This keeps the assesments on many properties that have been held for a long time very low.

Being they bought the condo in 1972 for under $85,000 the taxes sound right and the taxes on similar units that have been held for 36 years would be the same.

There is your reality.

The value is estimated by the city. Example my home is estimated by my town at 180,000 but my house if I sold it is worth over 800,000. The property tax rate is set by the city and is based on what they city valves the property at NOT what Zillow says it is worth or what they think it can be sold for.

Cindy McCain Tax Returns: Reports $4.2 Million In 2007 Income

the amount of tax you paid is a heck of alot less than she paid. that amount that obama says is 250k, will be at 30k before he is done. after all liberals love your money more than they love you or the poor.

Cindy McCain Releases 2007 Tax Return

By Michael D. Shear
Cindy McCain, the wife of Republican presidential candidate John McCain, paid $1.13 million in taxes during 2007 on income of more than $4.1 million.
McCain's campaign released a two-page summary of her tax return on Friday evening, saying in a statement that she had received an extension until Oct. 15 because she had not received all the information needed to file by the April deadline.
The tax return indicates that most of Cindy McCain's income -- about $2.9 million -- came from "rental real estate, royalties, partnerships, S corporations, trusts, etc." The heir to a beer distributorship, McCain also has several homes, including rental properties.
Cindy McCain also reported $746,000 in capital gains and a $297,000 salary.
The couple has always reported their income separately. John McCain had previously released his tax returns for 2006 and 2007, showing income of about $500,000, largely from his Senate salary, book royalties and retirement income.
Cindy McCain had initially resisted releasing her tax returns, citing disclosure the couple made in Senate filings. But she later relented.

Do you expect to be rich someday? Is that why you don't relate to the middle-class who don't get all the breaks like the rich? I relate more to my own class, which is middle, and to lower-income people, because I've been there, too.

Maybe it's just where you're from, or how you grew up. But, I've never thought the rich were more worthy than the rest of us to get the tax breaks.

Good, so then you know that the top 1% of wage earners in this country pay 39% of all taxes collected.
Apparently that's not fair to you. You think they should pay more, say 60% of all taxes collected. Would that be O.K.?
Of course you know that higher taxes equates to fewer jobs.
