We have a domestic partnership registry in one city and you don't get any state rights but one homophobic legislature wanted to do away with that...despite the domestic partnerships not being recognized by the state.

I think the first southern state to legalize marriage equality will see a flood of new residents. I'm not holding my breath it will be my state though....

At least in some of these states with marriage defined as a man and a woman, you can at least try for civil unions...I think.

I can't picture ANY southern state ever legalizing marriage equality, can you? Texas voted for the Constitutional ban by ~75-25, Louisiana ~80-20. Does that sound like it would ever happen?

Well, it doesn't work that way in most states. Good for Arizona. Now try to have some respect for the way that other states govern themselves.

Even if those states don't do it on their own, they may be forced to at least recognize same-sex marriages performed in other states.

I really dont want to argue or debate anything about it tonight....this is a night for celebration....the grass roots organization in the state was tremendous....the leaders in the Senate were phenomenal.....and the public hearing was a triumph.....I am so happy and feel so validated after all the years of insults, threats, isolation, intimidation....I am just overwhelmed with joy and thanksgiving...tomorrow I can begin to battle again.....Tonight......I am thanking my gay brothers and sisters and our friends and family and fair minded people in Maine and across the country. Indeed, "We Shall Overcome!"

As someone who comes from the younger generation, I can promise you that my generation is much more understanding and willing to work our fellow gay and lesbian Americas.

Ooh, you want to get married, well that problem is marriage is a religious function, and governments should play no role, so instead of protesting your "wish", to get married, maybe you should be protesting the involvement of marriage with government... You'd get further quicker, and people wouldnt get tired of post after post hearing about gay sex and feel they have the need to change constitutions to mean "man and woman"..
Gays wanting to have sex? Really? Is that what you hear? Because I hear about them wanting to LOVE and treated equal.

Other nations and sub-cultures may be free to define marriage any absurd way they so choose; but the tradtional institution of marriage in the sense of a man and a woman joining in a union is the only proven method that is effective and healthy.
Not a Christian nation. Not at all. And traditional marriage did once include multiple wives. You cool with that?

How was it proven that a man and woman joining in union is the healthy one? I mean how many divorces are there? How much abuse goes on?

Majority rules is a lie. The majority cannot take away the right of a minority. No way, no how.

You've been duped if you believe we live in a Christian nation.
The founding fathers fought very hard to keep the religious extremists at bay when they were forming our government. It was founded specifically to liberate us from any state religion, a model that had crushed Europe and spurred the demand for a new nation free of religious control.

As such, we most certainly live in a secular nation and the beliefs of one religious group, while having a right to free expression, cannot impinge upon the rights of other groups. In this case, marriage equality is the only reasonable solution for a free society.

The simple fact that people from Christian countries were the second to immigrate here or make up a majority today is irrelevant to the founding mission of our nation.
Yes. We are a secular nation. NOT a Christian a nation. The Founding Fathers were very smart for their time and knew not to make Christianity official. God knows how much trouble we would have been in if they declared this a Christian country.

I dont even want to think about it.

If you want to live by christian beliefs...that's fine but when you try to enforce your religious beliefs on everyone else...that's when we have a problem.
Exactly. Same here. I am not saying Churches will have to marry same sex gender. I am not saying that you have to change your belief for gays and lesbians. You are welcome to protest all you want but remember that religion is a BELIEF. Your BELIEF should not affect other people at all.

Yes. Very true. I liked this post a lot.

I am still opposed to the concept, however. As a relief to you, my one viewpoint will not be enacted into law.
Thank God because your kind of viewpoints would take us back to prehistoric days and make us look even worse in the eyes of the world. Thank GOD!

If your viewpoints were ever enacted, people would laugh and shout when we go around screaming we want to give Iraqis freedom and that we are a free country when we cannot even let different races marry each other or gays.

Yes! Agreed with you, my friend!

Exactly. I noticed your status shows you believe in God and are a Christian. Thank you so much for understanding the lives of others anot pushing your belief on to other people. You are a true American!

Jesus. Where does this come out of? Seriously? This is about giving gays their right to marry.

And also, if this was a Christian Country, would all of that be banned?

The only scum I see are people like you who deny other fellow Americans their rights.

Shame on you.
