You can argue, 'well they SHOULD, they're going to leave a mess for me!'

But it's their choice whether or not they address them, and perhaps they don't want to.

Why should they be coerced, or forced to?

You do believe in freedom of choice, don't you?

This is for everyone, not just people who are sick

So for all of you 65 and over, get ready to be counseled on your "options" and have Uncle Sam make recommendations.

This plan is very telling and goes hand in hand with the plan's rationing of health care: Obama called it substitute tests and medicine, and he said "a stent instead of a bypass"....well for years stents have been done when appropriate and depending on condition of artery. Bypasses are done when 'multiple' coronary arteries are blocked and when an artery in bad condition. Illegals will get treatment and American seniors will get lack of good care it seems. There are only 800+,000 physicians and how many will want less pay?

The government system in America right now and for years has unlimited horror stories and bad treatment, I know. This is sliding scale care and also free county medical care. Why is news talking about Canada when they can look here and see what's been going on in our country.

You have zero credibility when you politicize issues like this, in your desperation to attack Pres. Obama.
Only at START of medical care with a particular physican/group are patients of any age to sign advance directives. NOT EVERY FIVE YEARS FROM AGE 65 IF THIS WOULD APPLY, AND CERTAINLY NOT ANY DISCUSSIONS! Please learn before posting.

Making decisions about end of life care is a critical issue for anyone, to say nothing of those reaching the end of their natural life spans. Unfortunately, health insurance companies do not adequately compensate doctors for the necessary time to consult with their patients about these issues even those who have diagnosed with terminal illnesses, so in the end, instead of understanding the full range of options, folks get sucked up into the do whatever we can think of futile procedure nightmare that adversely affects the quality of the remaining time on this planet and at the huge costs to their family and heirs.

I think they do understand. Advanced directives is a document that is signed by a patient on terminal illnesses, whether they want life prolonged with medical support such as defibrillation, iv's, tubes, nutrients, etc, or do they want extraordinary medical support witheld. This one medical directive is signed once when starting care with new doctor, and it is legal and valid into eternity. It can be changed by patient as well. The discussions in this new bill are something entirely different, it sounds like patients may be persuaded to change their wishes by signing new document. No discussion valid unless a signature goes with it.

Does being an MD count? What about you, what are your credentials?

Of course, and people have sued Ins. cos., but will they be able to sue the government when it governs insurance co. I hear the answer is NO. Something to think about.
