The arugument is not about socialism vs capitalism. That is NOT the argument. The argument is about a well regulated economy vs a lazziez faire economy. I am for a well regulated economy and a strong central government. This is what works the best for the most people. Nobody is advocating the socialization of the economy. Yes, sometimes the government has to intervene- such as when it must take over banks. But the government does not hold on to the banks long. It puts them back in private hands as soon as it can clean them up. In fact, many times the FDIC takes over a bank for LESS THAN ONE DAY!! Like WaMu- they already had another bank- Chase- ready to step in and assume operations the day they took it over! The government does not want to own banks, insurance companies and GM. They want to clean them up and get them back in private hands ASAP! So I do not know where this "socialism" stuff is coming from!

Oh, I thought Randy Weaver was dead. I know Rudolph is in his cell 23 hours a day. Hopefully Weaver is too!

It's alarming, though hardly surprising, how many in this thread would support, or at least acquiesce to, some kind of armed revolt. I don't think we've had such an example of people referring to their fellow citizens as the "enemy" or "traitors" since the days just before the Civil War.

Sadly, some imagine such a thing as being so very exciting. So did the hotheads in the South, but by 1865, their opinions had changed. After seeing their land laid waste and thousands of their sons and daughters dead, many of them had developed a different opinion about trying to overthrow the duly elected government. Some of us have seen the results of civil war and genocide, and let me tell you...it is NOT something you should wish on your worst enemy.

And, overthrowing the legitimately elected government is exactly what we're talking about here, no matter how many excuses you can come up with. Ironically, such talk often comes from those who claim they love America and the Constitution. Advocating an armed effort to subvert the demonstrated Will of The People is about the most anti-Constitutional thing you can do. Why? Because for the Constitution and our democracy to work, the losing side in any election must graciously and peacefully give way to the new majority. They may organize and protest, march and garner support, but the minute they take up arms, they reveal themselves as true enemies of liberty and freedom and should be dealt with accordingly. There is a clear, distinct line between political protest and treason and that line runs right down the barrel of a gun.

Plus, of course, nobody ever talks about what they would replace the current government with. Tearing down is easy; building something new is difficult and fraught with real peril. Suppose the extremist's did succeed in driving Barack Obama from the White House? What then? Merely hold another election and see him put back in the voters? Oh, no! Can't do that. Ok, do what then? Come on, all ye who would like to see the Constitution overthrown...then what?

I don't know about everyone else, but let there be no mistake about where I stand: I took an oath to preserve, protect and defend the Consitution of the United States, against all enemies foreign and domestic. So far as I'm concerned, that oath was for life and anyone who takes up arms against our government will have to come through me.

Oh goodie, another love it or leave it comment.
America, love it and change it.

"You people?"
You're the one talking about taking arms against a legally elected government.
You're the one who needs to look at yourself.

You remember them, don't you.
If you disagreed with Bush, you were corralled 1-5 miles away from the event.

A little thing called The Patriot Act is another.

Is not Obama going around the constitution by appointing Czars with power that congress cannot question. It looks like an exo-skelton built around the constitution basicialy to dismantle our rights. Fema takes over in Martial Law and there is no provision for Fema to return the country to the constitution. Fema does not even have to report to congress for 6 months, now we all know how Fema handled New Orleans, first thing was to pick up all the weapons.
The largest Army in the world is China, with 1.5 million men, then India with 1.2 million and then you have the US with 85 million gun owners. IF just 10 percent stand up for the constitution thats 8.5 million. It is estimiated that to contain the US it would take 65 million man army for a 24 hour control.
