Like, same private insurance just at a lower cost?
Subsidizing unisured so they can buy private insurance. But the left doesn't give damn about the unisured, they would rather deny coverage than give up the government plan.
You -- John Q Individual -- have been doing that all this time via expensive insurance premiums and insane hospital fees.
Look - under a government run health care plan we will pay more in taxes - there is no way around that. The government is going to provide more to us, so we will have to pay more. That is simple economics. I would rather take that extra money I spend in taxes and donate it to charities of my choice, that way if the money isn't being spent wisely I can move it somewhere else. I donate a large portion of my income now, and if my taxes are increased I won't be able to afford to continue doing so.
What do we do if taxes go up and the government does a poor job, or mismanages our money? We deal with it, because at that point we are stuck with another poorly run system.
Based on our government's history, I simply do not trust it to run something as important as health care. That would be like asking my alcoholic Uncle who lives in a sh*t house and can't hold a job to be my stock broker. I am the stupid one if I ever just *hand* him a check.
The "debate" on Healthcare is disappointing in how it's being carried out. The whole question of should we or shouldn't we can be simply answered. The Ins. companies are deathly afraid of reform. So much so that they a spending millions on buying as many politicians as they can, both sides. But, to my mind, the simple fact that they are so aggressively against reform is proof positive that we need this reform as quickly as possible. After all, the Ins. companies are deeply interested in our well being. Right?

The House bill proposes a cap of $5000/indivs, $10,000/family; "the Senate bill is fairly similar".
The House bill, for instance, says that health plans must cover hospital stays, prescriptions and maternity care, among other things. Preventive care would have to be covered at 100%. The House bill also bans lifetime and annual caps on payouts. Also, consumers couldn’t be forced to spend more than $5,000 out of pocket for care in a year, or $10,000 for a family. The Senate health bill is fairly similar. It also requires family plans to cover children until the age of 26.
Thanks for the info, but I was actually inquiring about his plan "costs" in terms of tax (since it will be tax funded as well as the above - and we all know it's not all as simple as just "tax the rich"), interest for the debt we have to incur, deficit spending, inflationary effects, economy effects. Put it all on one spreadsheet, lay it out against the savings (if any, really). The CBO has done some of the work, and the results were pretty scary. One of the scary things is, no one knows the above. No one knows the costs, no one knows how it will be paid for.
I don't know about Republicans, but definitely yes for some people posting here in the Politics forum.
Do we need to make some major improvements to our healthcare system? Yes we do, but we still have the best system in the world. There is no where else in the world that I'd like to receive care.
We need to make improvement but we simply can't go socialist. Furthermore, healthcare is not an entitlement.
I'm sick of being told that I have to provide for people that will not work, will not take any responsibility for themselves, people that feel it MY DUTY to take care of them because I'm a privlaged white male then with the same breath they scream about how evil I am and how I've oppressed them.
