The smokers themselves are really irrelevant in this discussion as it isn't them that made the decision to allow smoking. Your complaint should be directed at the owner of the business, if you don't get your ketchup take your business elsewhere or if you think there is enough demand you could invest your own time and money into a business and make whatever rules you want.
Yeah, yeah, yeah... Tired old argument. I never assumed every business owner had to cater to any demands. The fact is, though:

1. There were no businesses willing to self-regulate themselves (and I have no desire to open my own...silly argument btw) so there were no choices to go elsewhere - especially not in smaller cities that didn't have broad enough economies to serve diverse tastes. I am simply happy these actions were taken. I could care less about the rest because,

2. Smoking is a habit of a very primitive society (ev olved beings would never choose to pollute themselves in such a destructive manner). So, until we evolve beyond this primitive practice, regulations at least help mitigate their destructive impact.

I am an ex-smoker but respect the rights of those that choose to smoke. I have friends who smoke and have no problem being with them if they are smoking. It is a personal choice. As an smoker and ex-smoker I can't stand the militant non smokers who come down on smokers like they are the smoker police. Smoking is more addictive than heroin and extremely difficult to quit. Some tolerance and understanding would be nicer than the rude remarks.

These two statements contradict each other.

Smokers panic when they are in situations where they cannot feed their addictions and keep from going into withdrawal.

1. so you couldn’t get the open market to do what you wanted, so you took the lawsuit route...typical liberal fashion, if i don’t get my way, ill sue. if there was such a demand, there would have been a supply provided. but wait, you folks don’t believe in the market system right?

2. always looking down your nose at everyone? when they don’t agree with you, they are stupid, ignorant, primitive. what about sitting around drinking wine, or beer. is that primitive. let get a ban on drinking in public places. what about cramming a cheese burger down your throat...how barbaric! lets ban that. and people who eat junk food are just soo under classed.. let raise the tax on it so they will stop or pay....

can you see how ridiculous you folks sound?

now, why cant i just step outside? a cigar can take 2 hours to smoke. its not a 5 min thing like cigarettes. still, why should we have to? give us a choice. im not saying i want you nonsmokers to have to deal with smoke you don’t like. I understand you don’t like it, and like most smokers i know, we will go out of our way to not offend....but, we have to have someplace to go, and no outside doesn’t count.

So just curious....do you drink pop? alcohol? pre-mixed drinks? eat processed foods? go to restaurants? etc. These all can pollute your body in a destructive manner!! Or do you eat only 100% natural products? Do you grown your own sugar, grains, vegetables, etc.? Do you raise your own cows, chickens, pigs, turkeys, etc.?

I have twice the energy/drive than the 20-something smoking/junk food gorging morons I work with.

Cigarette smoking is an ignorant, weak method to commit suicide slowly.

Actually, it's not funny - the smokers and the fatties are driving up our health costs, leading to a potential nationalized socialist health plan under the Obamanation.
And you runners are also driving up health care costs with all your orthopedic problems. Running isn't good for you...walking is better.

I agree with you on smoking, I hate it, and I used to smoke, but I don't think the solution is to have more taxes and government regulation. If you don't want to smoke, don't do it, and if you don't like second hand smoke, don't patronize places that allow smoking. The free market will take care of the rest. If you allow government intrusion into an issue like smoking, eating, etc, sooner or later they're going to meddle in something you enjoy. Just keep opening the floodgates to socialism....
