IMO, it seems that your perception of white nationalists is a bit old fashioned. Perhaps you would benefit from doing a little more research about the movement?

My perception is 'old fashioned'? First, on the subject of the 'advances' of the latter, is this supposed 'advancement' correlative to David Dukes attempted makeover of the Klan image? The old 'we are not anti black, we are pro white'? thing? Uh huh, 'old fashioned' indeed. Like this attempt to shift perception is something new? The target of the hate groups recruitment efforts has not changed, nor has how they present themselves, so, how is it that you find my take so far behind the times? If the 'mainstreaming' of the white power/white nationalist groups is something new to you, perhaps it is you that are behnd the curve? Mainstreaming is a bit of a misnomer anyway, as the people that are attracted to these groups are not 'mainstream', they may come from roots of this type, suburban white kids etc, but they are looking for a way OUT of the mainstream, because that is where peer pressure, the comformity stigma in their schools, and the age old desire to fit in somewhere has placed them. They don't fill the bill to be 'popular', have trouble making friends, don't excell at sports, and these hate groups make it easy for them to find a niche.
The preceding analysis is chapter and verse for how hate groups recruit. The same type of youth that the Aryan groups target is the type of adult that the Klan targets, except the standard Klan recruit tends to come from a specific demographic, and geographic region. Angry white southern folks are the stereotype, and these people do make up a significant percentage of the KKK numbers. The Klan is building it's agenda on a different platform than the nationalist types, usually along economic issues that revolve around the granting of 'special rights' to minorities, and government persecution of southern whites. This has not changed in quite a spell either. So, if , as you say, I am underinformed as to the extent these groups have infiltrated the 'mainstream' ( there is an insidious plot afoot aye?) I cannot quite see it. I suppose that FOX News needs to be part of this discussion now? Riddled with infiltrating Aryan types are they? No doubt Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are hiding brown shirts and combat boots in their closets at home. CEO's of major businesses, like, oh, say GE and GM are no doubt in cahoots with the AB? Relax , there is plenty of tinfoil to go around.
Why, pray tell, would "those on the left" want to see a RISE in membership and activity by Hate Groups?

Because fearmongering keeps people in line...and if you say the 'big bad white nationalists' are a coming you can keep the useful idiots right where you want them...
But to do so requires there to be more of the 'big bad white nationalists' so you simply expand the definition to include people who previously were not...

For the past 4 years I've been on this teen forum called Livewire. I seen all kinds of different racists, from the usual no-life trollers to the ridiculous right-wing radicals to the angry types that just want to get attention.
But lately we get more and more of the types who will claim that immigrants (legal or illegal) "destroy" the country, advocate for separation and segregation of races and tell kids that being for integration and friendship between races is "racial egalitarism".
A racial egalitarian is basically a fancy way way of saying "negro or *******-lover"
When you tell them that they are wrong and use reason and explanation they try to discredit you by calling whites "race traitors" or telling them they are victims of "white guilt". They are completely opposed to "multiculturalism" (a catch-all word that includes everything they hate which tries to reconcile ppl of different races) Now "multiculturalism" (or anything which advocates friendship between races or learning about other cultures) is a totally dirty word.
They use the fact that our society looks down on racial slur as some sort of totalitarism and use a few extreme examples to claim that freedom of speech is muzzled for racists. Basically they portray themselves as victims. Livewire (which a SUPPORT website for teens) even has to allow racial slurs to show up because those guys complain about censorship.
Those guys are not idiots or uninformed. They get all their data and stats from sites like the America Renaissance and VDare and hundreds of others. They are not always extremists and manage to convince and recruit a lot of intelligent "moderate" people. They pretend to be teens but they often get adult help. More and more teens are falling into the trap and spreading the hate message.
Its NOT old-fashioned at all. Its totally advanced and using high tech and many teens are hearing and spreading the hate message under the nose of parents.
Looking at the boards here (and for the last several months), 1 in every 4 threads seem to be asking or presenting some 'anti black' or 'anti-immigrant/anti mexican question (ex-what do you think of the bell curve...are blacks bad tippers...why black parents are inferior...why you shouldnt support interracial marriage..) OR anti-obama comments (do you regret voting for obama....obamas taxing me...obama wants illegals to take over..etc).
The trend is not limited to this forum. Its all over the internet. When Obama was elected, White Nationalist sites were shut down with people seeking to join. There have been more threats to this president than to any since Kennedy. Pro-Christian advocates, Extremists and Conservatives are on TV every day asking america to revolt, to 'lone wolf', and every month there are new arrests for some extremists trying.
Things are changing, and the 'old guard' does not like that. Black president, hispanic female supreme court member, growing Hispanic population, rising black middle class, increasing in pro-white hate crimes, increasing in interracial marriages...all things which the radical right abhors. And you dont have to look on this sites posts to be able to tell.
If this were 3 years ago, and we were all talking about the crazy left making threats against people, bringing guns to rallies, attacking demographics who didnt agree with them and essentially flooding the airwaves with reasons why everyone else should hate the other side and all groups affiliated with them, I would be first in line making this same comment. We all remember the anti-bush whacky antics from the left, but for whatever reason, they did not seem as violent and aggressive as they are here. Annoying, yes, but no one was advocating assassinations, killing droves of nonwhites or jews or muslims, or touting racial superiority on a daily basis, and somehow tying that claim to 'capitolism' (which makes no sense whatsoever).
Now, we all know about trolls. Its HIGHLY likely that at least a few of the 'hate-flooders' online are actually the same person with different handles. Such is the price of having free registration. But the underlying theme shows a trend.
IS the radical right wing becoming more than just annoying, to the point of being DANGEROUS? And if so, what precautions should everyone else take not to be victimized or intimidated by such people?

Wanna have a discussion about race? How about we drop the BS and look at the truth here: This all started once Obama started doing badly in the polls. If he starts to do well again, then everything will subside, once again.

Stromfront started a long time ago. And some of the ppl that have been filling Livewire with racism have been around for years. One guy who is White Nationalist and National Socialist (both) has been flooding the place even before Obama presented his candidacy.
Racism is growing in the US and its VERY popular among teens. Some of it is just going against parents but some of it is deeper than that.
The chain email letter about "why can we have brown pride and asian pride and not white pride" is #1 as most popular post to pass around in teen blogs and teen forums.
Go to Stormfront. Those are NOT left-wingers or blacks. In fact anyone who advocates anything else than white nationalism or National Socialism is kicked out in a jiffy...
You know, Mr. Tindo, Obama has asked us to have a conversation about race. Subsequently Eric Holder told us that we were cowards for not talking about race. So people come in here and put their cards on the table face up so everyone can see them asking for a discussion. Then you come along and lump us all in with the extreme element in this country.
I say, what the he11! Hey Mr. Holder, blacks in this country don't appear to want to have a conversation about race unless they can be the ones who decide what the topic of conversation is. Usually that amounts to how whites are racist. Blacks don't seem to want to have a conversation about black crime or black illegitimacy or black parenting or black academic achievement or other problems in certain segments of the black community.
Blacks get real defensive and combative. They will claim that we are denigrating all blacks in spite of repeated attempts to explain that we are talking only about certain segments of the black community. They use the claim that we are talking about all blacks in order to shut down the conversation.
We are not extremists. We are American citizens who are getting real tired of being called racists for every black failure and evey black who feels he has been disrespected whether real or imagined .
