Your original question dealt with "Sicilian" and "Italian" which would be ethnic or national. Now this question sounds like a scientific question, not a political one. Racial identity and origins is a quagmire.
These people from southern Italy are of European ancestry- and are considered 'Caucasian' or white.
If we were to consider ancestry, we all ultimately belong to one race (human).
"Caucasian" (one of the three "races" defined for political reasons) doesn't mean white (one of the colors/shades for complexion), although it has been more or less hijacked to mean it.
Those who were dissatisfied with accepting just one race ("human"), went ahead and classified humans into Negroid (Africa), Caucasoid (Europe, the middle east and into India, and Mongloid (East and South East Asia), likely based on facial features.
haha, europeans don't like to consider the middle-east caucasians.
they are definitely caucasians. the reason is not based on honesty but on political and especially religious affiliations. europe is christian and the middle east is mostly islamic. this is the real reason whites or europeans play cognitive dissonance with the rest of their caucasian race.

Sicilian/Italian are nationalities, not races.
I am of Italian/Sicilian descent - I am also Caucasian.
