Baby Boomers, Gen X, Gen Y... (generation, soldiers, healthcare, death)

I have a name for the current generation: "let me be me" generation.
I want it now, I want it but you have to pay for it, I won't behave, I won't provide self-discipline, I won't, I just won't, so since I won't be responsible, I will impose the death penalty on you simply because I hate you, but I don't believe in the death penalty. I want to speak freely, but you can't and I won't defend it because I have decided that America is wrong. I will go to college and listen and believe everything failed businessmen teach in the college of business.
I was part of the baby boomers, I saw the anguish of Viet Nam but not as a soldier, I let others be the targets. I saw the media literally kill thousands of young American soldiers because by all accounts we had won the war until the North Viet Namese started using our nation's freedom of the press to whip us into losers, and we lost.
I saw a report on PBS regarding the "Generation Y", or the "Millenium Generation". It was about this generation now entering the workforce and how they expect to skyrocket up the ladder in companies without putting the "time in" and effort. It was a very interesting show.

Uh... doesn't that more or less describe our upcoming entitlements crisis? Billing the youth to pay out benefits to the elderly? Truth is, if you live more than a few years past 67. you're going to get more back in benefits than you ever paid into the system, and that slack money has to come from someone else.
It also describes a part of the youth culture that feels it is their "right" (note, entitlement) to receive things like "free" healthcare and a "free" college education. This delusion penetrates not only the Millenium Generation, but also segments of Generation X and the boomers...

Well, part of the issue there is that the "market rates" for those services have spiraled up so fast that the average person can no longer simply pay them out-of-pocket. A few decades ago, you could have a doctor visit you for a housecall, and pay a modest amount for that service.
Now, if you so much as step foot in a hospital, you start accumulating all sorts of random $100+ charges that end up totaling thousands.
How do you expect younger people to react? With a grin and a smile?

I agree and ""a "free" college education."...ya, what a horrible idea to have a well educated population. Better to make college education increasingly harder and harder to attain through higher and higher tuitions and student loans that are harder to get and have higher interest rates...keeps the peons down and free to take those low paying jobs.

I'm a younger person, and I've worked for those things rather than expecting someone else to pay for me. So...yeah...grin, smile and determination instead of sticking my hand out.
