The defense official conceded that sights were problematic because the U.S. could turn them over to Iraqi or Afghan partners. Sights with Biblical references, the official said, are "definitely not appropriate."
Personally, my problem with the Biblical inscriptions is due to the fact that not everyone in the military is religious. But more importantly, I just think it's best to leave religion out of government operations. If soldiers want to pray, they can do that on their own time.
For those of the atheistic religion, they can just tape over or ignore the inscription or just ask for another rifle. Or simply shut the puck up! (Smilie 1-1)
Personally I would want an inscription on my rifle and on my helmet and if I didn't have one I'd request to have one. (Smilie 2-5, 1-1)
Maybe a large cross to show that I'm a believer.
Afghani's and Iraqi's need to know who's there to save their ungrateful butts. (Smilie 3-3, 2-5)
As for your usually well thought out posts, "If soldiers want to pray, they can do that on their own time"! (Smilie 2-6)
Is, when you are under fire, by the enemy ok to pray, or do you have to wait until you get to the rear... what if you get shot dead before you can get to the rear ?? (Smilie 2-4, 2-4, 2-4)
Maybe only the people actually doing the fighting instead of the people sitting at their computer in the comfort of their own homes should be the ones to answer this. That would probably be more appropriate.

The decision was made by military leaders - not anybody here.
The military leaders aren't tough enough to withstand some "whining" from the public? If you're unhappy with the decision made by military leaders, then direct your frustration toward them.
Pardon? I'm a vet. I'm christian. It's against military policy. 3 votes of mine say no it doesn't belong there.
Any soldier like artinchicago wanting to redecorate their uniform to suit themselves runs contrary to military policy as well. Go be a swiss guard for the pope, see how he'd feel about your lack of discipline.

Have you ever served in the military? I have. Do you really think "military leaders" don't have people telling them what to do? If so, you need to research and/or enlist to see how the chain of command really works.

How about dog tags? I'm a vet too. Better yet. How about this?
So as vet, why ignorant on subject of military policy?
