50K - 150K per year depending on the size of the family. I tend to think of it divided into lower-middle, middle-middle, and upper-middle.
Of course a single person making even 40-50K would be doing very well.
Even then you have to take into consideration where the aforementioned people live. Where I live (Long Island, NY) a person making $50K could not afford a house. Between the cost of utilities, real estate and taxes, it would not be a lush life.
