I think it's clear that it just isn't going to come this year. It's almost June and it's warmer in Anchorange, Alaska than it is here!!! Not to mention it's been pretty much gray and rainy non-stop since February so we're just going to skip summer. Fall officially starts again on June 21st.

I was born and grew up here but this is getting re-freaking-diculous.

Cancel summer? Fine with me! Never did like it anyway, especially with how hot it gets here. I'd be perfectly fine with having soothing rain and cool temperatures all year long.

On a more serious note, I am surprised at how cool and rainy it has been this spring. When I moved here last April, it was already getting steamy, and by late may it was hardly raining at all. But this year, it is nearly June and still in the 60's during the day and very rainy and gray. Love it!

I wasn't in Portland for the heat wave of '09.

Are you sure that heat wave wasn't just some sort of sales gimmick for the home air conditioning installers businesses? You know, hot one summer, the three or four normal summers, then another heat wave to drum up the repair business?

Wrong. You need to go read up on El Nino. It typically signals warmer and drier conditions in the PNW during winter, and tends to have little effect on our summers. Also, forecasters say it is dissipating already this year.

Also, I thought the running joke around here is that summer doesn't start until after the Rose Festival. Why all the complaining about clouds and cool weather in May then?

Oops, I don't know how I managed to mess that one up. Thank you for the correction!

I stand by all of my other comments though, summer can take a hike!

We have been in a La Nina weather pattern the last couple of years and we are going into the El Nino weather pattern which will make us have a pretty warm summer (when it get here) and a warmer then normal next winter.
