I'd also like to add that young men in general are less open minded. So, even in a super liberal city, you're still likely to see a lot of young, 20something White men who would think gays are gross and that being gay makes you less of a man. I don't think male on male homosexual relations will ever be fully accepted. People just believe it is too anti-masculine.

Conversely, even in conservative circles, female same-sex relations are more tolerated and even seen as something "attractive". You could be in the most conservative White Christian town in the South (or wherever) and "I Kissed a Girl" comes on in a party, and most men would be encouraging the ladies to get in on that and a lot of the women would play along. You would never see this happen for men doing the same thing.

Depends on what you consider a "same sex experience." Mod cut. A much higher number of teenage guys have jacked off together at one point or another. Hanging out nude together is relatively common. A higher number yet are physically affectionate with each other, usually masking it as "joking" since its not as socially acceptable for guys to be affectionate as it is girls.

The fact that female same-sex relations are more tolerated is the reason why so many so-called straight porn flicks over the years usually features a scene of girl-on-girl action.

Yes I can see many people believing that male on male homosexual relations is "anti-masculine" . Some years back here in Denver late one night one of our local independent movie theaters was showing a movie about a young man who was attracted to hairy gay men who sported some extra pounds and had deep voices. I think the film was called "Bearcity" though I am not sure about that. Maybe it was a local film but anyway when on the silver screen appeared this big fat hairy bearded gay man lighting up a cigar and in a very deep voice said "WOOF"..according to some of my friends who were at the movie several members of the audience got up and left and never came back. Apparently they couldn't handle the sight of a masculine gay man who didn't fire up a Virginia Slim cigarette and talked like the late Paul Lynde..and this happened in a city that is usually known as being liberal.

My activity was pretty light (fondling, touching, jerking off, and, once, oral sex). I never really felt the need or desire to take it any further. It never really seemed like a gay thing as much as a way to just release sexual energy in an environment where there were no girls around. It was all just kind of "play" more than anything else and it was definitely happening, though perhaps not widespread, at my school. As I got older and met girls, it was clear my attraction was much greater toward them and my interest in guys faded away.

15 years on I feel lucky to have had these experiences. A few times, my guy friends have kind of suggested they were interested, or just curious in some abstract way, about what it would be like to be with another guy. I realize unrequited sexual interest/curiosity of any sort is an incredibly strong force within us and this would be a pretty powerful/aggravating question to walk around with in your adulthood.

So I'm curious about how common same sex experimentation is. I realize it would be impossible to ever have hard statistics on this sort of thing but I do wonder...
You're Gay, Please don't ruin some nice girls life only because you can't admit it. I have many Gay friends and family and love them all. But you have a responsibility to be honest with partners.

I think the number is much higher than 10%. Young guy are horney and need relief it is only natural that the experiment. When I was growing up I experimented with several of my guy friends but we didn't tell intone. Then at about 14me and my best friend learned about [Mod cut.] from his older brother and decided to try it. We discovered we could provid great sex for each other at a time we wanted to have sex but were too young for girls. We continued our secret of helping each other out all thru high school but never told a sole. We are both married with kids now. I would dare to say at least 75%of boys have expermited with other boys at some time to some degree.

Thinking does not make it so.
The way you wrote that comes across as - Since I had multiple gay partners growing up, every else must have too.

And are you still attracted to men today, at least somewhat?

Other straight identifying guys who messed around w/guys in their youth now are with women can chime in too. I'm curious. Are you still attracted to men?

Newbie here. The views in this thread are quite varied.

The question of how many men engaged in teenaged male same-sex experimentation (TMSSE) has been debated for decades. Generally speaking, most professionals who have studied teenage sexuality feel that TMSSE is under-reported, and I feel that they are correct. The 10% mentioned by, and questioned by, the OP seems low to me.

Even in our more open and accepting 2016 society, I suspect that many men are still not comfortable admitting to TMSSE as a teenager. There are many factors involved, but IMO the "guys don't do that" mentality is the strongest. Of course a study done today might have a higher percentage of TMSSE than one done 30 years ago (and I hope that guys are now more comfortable admitting it).

I don't see TMSSE as a clear indicator of early sexual preference. A guy who engaged in TMSSE could turn out straight, or bi, or gay. For some it might've been a one-time thing, for others it might've been ongoing with several partners.

For most guys it was/is probably a combination of curiosity, teen-aged horniness, and opportunity rather than "I want to be with a guy." Some guys will have an immediate and emphatic "No way!" reaction. Other guys might be "Well, maybe." While other are "Sure, let's do it."

I don't think the actual activity is that important. Does the hand, mouth, or anus make a difference?

I'll share my experience, hopefully my terminology is acceptable (C-D clearly is not a 'tell us everything in graphic detail' site).

Mod cut.

That was my only TMSSE. I never desired guys, and I always knew that I liked girls. Over the next ten years I had limited success "getting" girls, but I never had any desire for guys. And I knew a few guys during that time who hinted at "I won't tell if you won't tell" sex.

I've now been married for 29 years, and have enjoyed a very fulfilling sex life with my wife.
