Thanks for the report Harbor Rat I guess I'm safer than I think my indicated depth must be actual clearance to the prop

Sounds like your transducer isn't offset correctly in your depth finder settings. Somewhere in the setup of the system should be an offset adjustment that you can manually set for how far the transducer sits below the waterline.

Fared pretty well today...caught 4 keeper Pomano between 15 & 18", in Placida Harbor. Other than that, practiced landing big fish by catching and releasing about 30 big jacks and blues. Beautiful morning till the wind kicked up after 2. Tried the north end of Charlotte Harbor but only caught one spec trout.
Photo before fillet, here. Ate one for dinner tonight....sweet meat!

Nice! What were you using, tackle wise, technique?

Did you catch the Jacks and the Blues in the same area?

I am currently looking out at 7" snow with more falling.

City data thinks my lure is a bad word so I have to put periods after each letter or they turn the word in ****
We use feathered j.i.g.s., tied to 40lb floro leader on 20lb braided line. No swivel, just line to line to lure.

Some will tip their j.i.g.s. with fresh or frozen shrimp but we didn't have to. The fish hit the bare j.i.g. based on the action.

Yes, the Jacks and Blues were together. They seem to hang there for hours. The Pompano move in and move on. Wish I could outfit one with a tracking device like they do the sharks. Would follow the Pompano schools all over.

Can't help you with the weather. Would you feel better if I told you I got a little sunburned in the 86* day here?

Just love have the trailer, still. Without it...to fish where I was I'd have to boat from my canal to the Charlotte Beach Cx, across the harbor to Boca Pass, up the Intercoastal to Placida Harbor...about a 2 hour trip, one way, on the water. Then the same trip home. Instead, I drive 20 minutes to the ramp at Placida Park, launch the boat and I'm catching fish 10 minutes later. At noon, the bite slowed there, so we loaded up the boat and drove to the Charlotte Beach Complex and launch it there, 30 minutes later and caught a speckled trout. If you are serious about fishing SWFL, don't give up on the idea of a trailer. I live on a Gulf access canal, have a covered lift and still feel the need for a trailer. I can also easily drive to Lemon Bay or south to Matlacha and put in there.

I went fishing with an old guy I knew. We got into a school of small mouth when the bite started slowing down he burned his line above the slip bobber knot. We followed that bobber all day and stayed on the school.
