I fished today for the first time in too long. Launched before sunrise Ladyfish were popping at the mouth of e cutoff. Fun top water action. I caught my first Bull Shark on a top water Skitter Walk. 15 minute fight on 15 pound test but I landed him. 42" long and about 25 pounds. Likely very full of Ladyfish!

Looked for Reds, Trout and Snook in the northwest end of the cutoff but found none. Will start my snook hunt about 4:30 AM tomorrow. It's nice to get off the water by 11 and get in the pool the rest of the day!
Very nice! When you say the mouth, do you mean on the eastern end? What was the tide, if you don't mind me asking? I like the look of the cutoff but didn't have great luck.

I am coming down on October 25th, and will be staying for 4 weeks. The flats boat will be in, and I will be out there every day. I am considering bringing down the Contender and the twins for some light offshore, but if the inshore bite is there, I will just stick with the El Pescador.

Maybe I'll see you out there?

I have the Navionics app on my IPad, and it is great. I have the life proof waterproof case, and it has never overheated. I also have a Garmin 3210 that came on the boat. The 10" screen is nice, but it is not touch, so often the IPad is easier to use.

I have tow boatus, and the service is excellent, although I haven't needed a tow in Florida, I have contacted them, and they responded immediately. The gentlemen I spoke with deployed from Bokellia, and he said there are other operators as well.

There are two entrances to the cutoff; Peace River side (southeast) and Myakka River side northwest. This particular report referenced the Myakka side. The approach there is tricky, as there is a sandy shoal on your starboard bow, if you are coming head-in. Stay wide to port by about 100 yards until you pass the point.

The entire cutoff is 1-2' at mean tide. No for the faint of heart. Even in my flats boat I have run aground inside there.

I have only entered from the Peace River side, and exited from the Myakka side.
We have been through at low tide, and it does get shallow. We even went up into all the nooks and crannies when we were there. Not alot biting last time in April, no baitfish, so by the time we got to the Myakka side, we had quit fishing and were just exploring.

I actually filled my live wells with mud we got so shallow. In fact, I think you saw me in the water cleaning out the pump at the PC beach complex. You were testing the Mako.

I always love to hear the reports, as the fishing is very new to me. I will be out pretty much every day I am in Florida. Any tips or spots are appreciated.

Anyone who is interested in going out, post on this thread.

As I arrive on 10/25, I imagine Snook will be on the table, pun intended.

One day, CD Snook tournament! Longest legal catch on the day. Should more than one person be lucky enough to land a 33" (top of the slot), we go by weight. Under/over slot does not count. $20 buy in, winner take all.
