Me: met husband online, I'm 8 years older than him, 2 kids from prev. marriage, 1 together, been in area for 5 years ...

Girls: my advice: 1) learn how to play corn hole / bean bag toss / Baggo [whatever you want to call it] 2) be open to learning something about/enjoying sports 3) same comment as #2 but apply to video games 4) ... or try an outdoor activity and join a group that is centered on that activity

Guys: Be reasonable. That gorgeous, gold-digging, piece of plastic is not really what you want for a wife or the mother of your kids. 1) Focus on making yourself the best person you can be 2) don't be afraid to approach someone (she's likely just as unsure as you), 3) get out there (put down the controller), go to a live sports event instead of watching it at home or at a buddies house where there are no ladies.

I wouldn't look at work unless it's a large company. If things don't turn out well it can really mess with your career. When you are ready to look for something long-term, I highly recommend e-harmony or something similar.

Ocassionally the Buffalo Wild Wings in Brier Creek can be a decent spot. Especially if there is live music. Spots that are in the suburbs are generally better spots than the college scene in downtown Raleigh or Chapel Hill. Downtown will yield lots of "casual" offers.

Tony's Oyster Bar in Cary has a variety of eligible? gentlemen? that are in that age group. If I were single and going there I would go with a group, go early and eat (food is decent), go on a night with live music... see where that leads. If nothing else it can be a fun place to people watch and hang out with the girls/guys.

If you are looking for mature, professional men... possibly try spots around North Hills. Although, some, not all, tend to be dating plastic 20 somethings for arm candy and are more in love with themselves and their jobs than focusing on an actual relationship...I'm hopeful for the unattached that at least some guys are still left out there that are worth the effort.

Don't discount the divorced or those with kids (ladies or gents). Many times having kids will help mature a person. If you aren't in "that" place or capable of accepting those responsibilities then don't, but most times you are eliminating a large group of people that are "quality" people.

My two cents ...

Default Cameron Village

Haven't been there lately, but Cameron Village may be a decent place to try as well.

Oh goodness...I was quite surprised to see this revived. I honestly forgot I posted it last year.

For those still looking, I would highly, HIGHLY recommend Meetup.com. Even if you are just looking for friends, meetup.com is a great option and you'll get to do/see/talk about something you love with other people who love it too.

I tried eharmony...I met several very nice men, but the spark just wasn't there...and ultimately decide the online thing just isn't for me. Several of my single girlfriends did the same, two of them met nice men and are still dating them (1+ years and 9mo later) so it seemed to work for them. I know a few other very nice women who are still trying the online thing, but not having much luck. I suspect, though, it is more about their pickiness than not meeting any nice guys. One told me she wouldn't consider a guy who is balding...I told her she just slashed her options in half...but she doesn't care.

For me, I joined several meetup groups and met lots of great people...many women that I've developed close friendships with...and an amazing man.

Good luck!

I was giving blood at Red Cross last week and thought
"now here is a place to meet civic minded guys that have been screened for HIV, prison time, and all sorts of other health issues !!

I may sign up to be a Red Cross snack volunteer..If they are really cute I can insist that their time in the snack station isn't quite up yet & maybe escort them to the car to be sure that they are steady on their feet

Sorry dude, your user name references zombies. From personal experience I can tell you that raising the subject of zombies, even in jest, seems to bring the conversation with a lady to a screeching halt.

I actually love zombie movies, but I've been married for 6 years, so it doesn't really matter. I don't have any single girlfriends in the area, and I can't think of any great single guys that I know either, other than one in Greenville. He can't seem to find a decent woman either, but he is a single dad with a young daughter and sometimes that brings baggage that deters folks.
