According to Gallup in 2014, 40 percent of North Carolinians SAID they attend church weekly, compared to 42 percent of South Carolinians and 35 percent of Virginians. Only 17 percent of Vermonters said the same.

Well, according to the 2010 religious census it is less evangelical than most places in the south: Evangelical Protestant Metro Areas (2010) | QuickLists | The Association of Religion Data Archives

Also, both Wake and Orange now have Catholics making up the largest religious group in each county with Durham not that far behind: Religion in America’s states and counties, in 6 maps - The Washington Post

As far as education is concerned count me in as one of the Phd's who is a believer but would never judge anyone for thinking otherwise and would not ask where you worship.
Studies have also shown that far more people have been killed in the name of religion than otherwise. Studies have also shown that those that are not religious are happier. How do you define happy? Anyway, I won't go on.

Also, I'd like some irrefutable archaeological evidence for the existence of Christ, Mohammad and Krishna. There exists some archaeological evidence for Buddha.

Link please. Or at least the institution where it can be found. Too many people in the digital age reference imagined studies, so I know better than to give this a moment's reflection without some substance.

In any case, if "belonging" and social acceptance are the cause, there are other means to attain that social acceptance without needing to conform to a doctrinal set of beliefs.

You are looking for irrefutable archaeological evidence of specific individuals that lived thousands of years ago? I don't think that is going to happen for many of the most well-preserved of bloodlines. It is far less likely for a peasant-class criminal executed by Rome. Virtually no religious secular scholars argue the existence of Jesus. I've never studied historic considerations of Krishna nor Mohammad so I won't speak to those.

It must be fun to say "studies have shown..." and then say whatever you want on the internet. Stalin and Hitler alone caused more people to be killed in a small span of the 20th century than religious wars.

unreal... Everyone that believes in God or goes to church weekly... is not smart. What is this... 5th grade? Good grief to the naive.... You have no idea who sits in those pews or what hardship they may be going through.

Here's a tip for you: Broad brushes of opinion placed onto people you don't know have never made an individual look smart.
