I was impressed they plowed our street and all the side streets in our Cary community. People make fun of how they handle snow here but it's way better than what I have experienced in other places that are equally not really prepared for snow.
Just drove from High House/55 area up to Carolina Preserve, most main roads are great, left turn lanes and intersections in general are not good at all. South side of High House is in rough shape, left turn from HH to Carpenter Upchurch is terrible as is the turn into Panther Creek High School, no way in hell there's school tomorrow even with a delay. Roads will be treacherous tomorrow before sunrise. Buses navigating subdivisions isn't happening. Campuses that I passed haven't been touched.
Town of Cary does a really good job plowing, WAY better than my old town in NY, where I'm pretty sure they used to "have a few" before hitting the road.
Do you have any snow chains/bungee cables? The cables would probably be enough to deal with this. I saw where somebody drove with those in our really hilly neighborhood. Might've been the mailman, but no mail in my box.
They typically do wait for a lot of it to melt. Chapel Hill prioritizes main roads, then hilly secondary streets, then the rest of the secondary streets, then tertiary streets (cul de sacs, dead ends, etc). I just took a walk around our hilly neighborhoods and they did come through and scrape at some point. It's still got some packed snow and there is one shady hill that always retains some snow and ice, but it's better than it was.
We got between 8 and 9 inches of snow. It is perfect for snowballs and snowmen. It is not perfect for a puppy going out to do his business. The birds were pretty busy at the feeders.

Cary is contracting with private businesses to help on residential streets. A tree service truck with a plow on the front just came through my cul-de-sac. Didn't get everything scraped clean, but it's a help.
My husband and I started walking our dog around Lake Johnson and I decided to go a little further to get a good shot of the lake. It was so beautiful, I wound up doing the whole trail (unpaved portion).
Thank you all who answered my question about timing for my drive home from Durham to Cary! I left downtown Durham around 2:30, and made it home within 40 minutes (about the same as my typical commute). I took 55 from Durham to Morrisville Pkwy in Cary. Other than a bit of slushy areas on Morrisville Pkwy where it is still shady, the roads were in great shape.

What part of Durham did you start your commute down 55? I might have to do the reverse of what you did for work reasons tomorrow.
I was on S. Mangum, so I went down S. Mangum toward 147, made a left on Morehead Ave to get on 147, then got off at the first exit, Alston/55. I usually go a round-about way on the smaller streets and skip the little bit of 147, but figured 147 would be easier today since I knew it was very clear.
All of the roads around ATC were pretty clear. Good luck tomorrow!
