They are one and the same basically. Mami Nora's rebranded as Alpaca when the matriarch went into retirement. Her kids are in charge now... and apparently need to take classes in running a business.
Interesting.
I would have assumed that Alpaca was a national/regional chain....almost feels like a Zoe's Kitchen in some ways.
Have never understood the love for this place. It's chicken. Seriously. And they have never got the order right the few times we've gone and the sides have been blechhhhhh.
True, but the chicken is cooked very well for a mass-produced fast food restaurant. It just falls off bone, not dry, and flavorful.
It's amazing that many people still don't know how to cook oven-baked or fried or any kind of chicken, resulting in a very dry and chewy meal. Even at "nicer" places.

And their sides are great too. I prefer to home-cook, but when my daughter lived locally we used to love to go there and split a whole chicken, and I could leave her with the leftovers.
One other thing about cooking the chicken: It's never as good after it has been cooled and reheated. Their's comes directly off the flames and onto the plates. It really is good (Better flavor than Costco, but I admit, I can't say it's a better value...)
But I could have sworn that yesterday the article said that it was the Glenwood Ave location that was sold to Cook Out.... oh well.
The article is a bit confusing but the sale to Cookout involves the Wake Forest Road location, not the Glenwood store.
That said, I find it interesting that the failed Glenwood location, along with the surrounding property, was sold to The Bright Family Properties, LLC on March 3, 2022. The building was under renovations toward becoming Mami's in late 2017 with a planned opening in early 2018. So four years after the fire, someone has bought the property.
I have to think that something will be happening to the building, whatever it is. Why would someone pay $1.45 million for a burned building and not develop it into something that generates income. But I'm pretty sure it won't be a Peruvian chicken restaurant.
How prone is the current Mami Nora's location to the flooding issues along Crabtree Creek?
