The Cary Wegmans is basically right on the border of Morrisville...in that area of town, you rapidly shift back and forth between the two towns. It actually has a Morrisville mailing address but is located in Cary.
There was supposed to be a Wegmans on the east side at the big new Fenton development just a mile-ish from Downtown Cary (Cary Towne Blvd between SE Maynard and I-40), but they unfortunately canceled their plans as the pandemic altered their building strategy. Nothing official yet, but the spot is likely to be a Publix instead.
There are also Wegmans in Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and Wake Forest, and another one in the works for Holly Springs, so they're definitely growing here.
I want to point out that your impression of our traffic infrastructure is probably skewed a bit because you were here in a weekend in February. You need to come back in the middle of the week.

Actually, we arrived on a Tuesday about 4:30pm driving from the Durham area (we arrived in NC on Saturday, went to Pinehurst for two days, then visited Davidson, leaving on Tuesday, drove around Chapel Hill then headed to Raleigh).
A couple of days we left the hotel very early (7ish, to drive around in rush hour traffic, we didn't drive towards Raleigh itself, but did head towards RTP. We would stay out and not return to the hotel until at least 5:30 or 6 pm.
Sure we hit traffic, but having lived in the Washington DC area for 6 years with a 3-4 hour "rush hour" twice a day, we deemed the area we are interested in to be relativity easy to get around in. In DC it took 45 minutes to go 11 miles to husband's work. The infrastructure around the area seemed to support current traffic situations.
I also realize that if you have lived in the area for years and now face more traffic due to growth, it may seem much worse to you.

I moved here from the DC area 10 years ago, after living there for 22 years. In that 10 years I have rarely seen anything like DC traffic. It's not nearly on the same level. In DC you had to plan your outings around the time of day. Here, I have never given the timing of my outings a second thought. You will really appreciate it.

It's all relative isn't it? We left Kingstowne area in 2014, moved to a very sleepy one-road town. I have been 30 minutes early for every appt, meeting etc. for 8 years! And since we will be retired if and when we move to NC, it will matter even less.
Just a reminder, the OP is coming from Destin, FL (population 14,000), not NYC.
