NJD has the tiebreaker (39 wins in regulation versus 38 for Carolina). In any scenario where the tiebreaker becomes relevant, NJD wins the division and Carolina will face NYR.

All the reason it was critical to beat Ottawa the other day. It would be clinched if we won that game. Now? Sweating. We have to do as well or better than NJD tonight.

Let's just win and it doesn't matter. The Islanders are beatable. The way things are going, I can't think the Canes would be the favorite in a series with the Rangers (even with home ice advantage).

Hoping the Devils and Rangers series wears the winner down for Round two.

Yes, a gentlemen's sweep for us and let them battle for 7 hard fought games and come limping into round 2 would be ideal.

Honestly, teams that sweep one round historically do poorly in the next (remember the year when the Islanders swept their first round opponent, got swept by Carolina who then got swept by Boston as one notable example).

I wouldn't cheer for the Canes to lose any one game (even game 4).... but it might be better if the Canes go 5 or 6 then pulling off a sweep. Just far too much time to get rusty after a sweep.

Agree, that's why I was suggesting a Gentlemen's sweep. I also think they have been dragging down the stretch so need to do something to regain their mojo. If they had been peaking, I would want them to play everyday.

I'm a bit surprised that the Canes will wear the red 25th anniversary uni's at home during at least the first round of the playoffs.
